We went to Disneyland this week and there was no music playing in the lands. On main street there was only very soft music. Contrast with California Adventure which had music everywhere.

Anyone else notice this? Is this a permanent change?

We were there last week and I noticed music in TL and Frontier Land. I don't remember if I heard anything in Fantasy Land. And Main Street of course.
Maybe you just caught them on a bad day or perhaps they were working on something.

During the holiday season you will usually hear theme-specific Christmas songs in some of the lands, such as Critter Country, Frontierland, Toontown, etc. The music in DL is not as audible as it is in DCA, I think -- it seems to be louder and more noticeable in DCA.

As the PP mentioned, they do have music. Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Adventureland all typically have music playing in the background, as well as Main St.
