No supermarket promos for Thanksgiving turkey this year?

no free turkeys here in Fla... unless I missed something. In fact the cheapest turkey sale I can find is Winn Dixie for .79 lb. This is higher than a few years back. :confused3

Have you checked Publix? I know they are big in Florida. Here in GA they are doing .59 a lb. Best price in NE Atlanta I can find so far.

Just checked our local grocery store ad. Turkey isn't even listed at all!

Publix ad that came out yesterday is .59/lb for Publix turkey. Limit 2.

Nothing here in washington either. The last few years I have beem able to get a free turkey or two.:confused3

Thanks! :goodvibes I guess I checked Publix too early. I will be sending hubby to go get two turkeys! :cheer2:

Here on LI, most of the supermarkets I shop at no longer require you to have a discount card to get the sales, so no free turkeys this year.

Haven't seen any free turkey, yet. NE Ohio

Best price was Marc's .69lb limit of 2. No extra purchase. Brand white honeysuckle.

bought 4 so far, 2 for me and 2 for food bank.

Western New York area - .48 per pound or match any other store - store brand. I haven't checked any of the other ads yet.

Brand name Butterball - $1.08 per pound was the best price I found so far.

Back in the day, there was no limit. I used to get a few turkeys, and donate them. Now I just get one.

Yeah, when it was $300 at ShopRite, there was no limit. Since they raised it to $400 a few years ago, they limit it to one deal. We often used to earn two and donate one to a food bank.

I'm unlikely to spend $400 at ShopRite this year, but I already got my free turkey at Acme. Free with a single $100 transaction. Just bought some extra meats, paper towels, cat food, etc. to get up to $100.

In my area, the best we ever get is a low price per lb. w/a $25 purchase. It used to be around .29/lb. They finally started marketing it today and the best I saw was .49/lb. And then there was the store that said they would beat everyone else. lol

We don't have any chan grocery stores here, unless you count Walmart. Our local store is doing a free turkey if you spend $400 in the weeks leading to Thanksgiving. I don't know how long they ran it, we don't shop there often.

Me either.

Raley's Bel Air (local chain) has them in today's flyer for 50 cents a pound. Safeway has them for 99 cents a pound.

We tend to pick up our Thanksgiving stuff a little bit at a time in the 2 months prior. And since we switched the majority of our grocery shopping to Walmart, we rarely buy $100 of groceries anymore.

Rumor has it, they are opening a WinCo in the old Country Club (Weinstocks side) early next year. Might be a little cheaper than WalMart

I don't think that is a rumor. There is a Notice to Sell Alcoholic beverages for WinCo in the window of Gottschalks.

My neighbor loved Winco until the Neighborhood Walmart opened, so I'm not sure their prices will be better than Walmart. Looking at Yelp, the big advantage is they are open 24 hours, big disadvantage is they don't bag your groceries.
I know the Arden-Arcade community commission opposed the Winco as an "undesirable" tenant. :confused3

OP, I am so glad you posted this because I have been thinking the same thing for several weeks now!

I live in a small town in GA, and our only "real" grocery store is Ingles. In years past, you could earn points towards a free turkey in the couple of months before Thanksgiving. Not a peep out of Ingles so far this year. I normally shop at Publix in a neighboring county that is on my way home from work, and last year they were doing a fabulous deal that if you got a flu shot (free on my insurance) or transferred or filled a new prescription, you could get a free turkey. This year, not a thing. I am so disappointed!

In Maryland we have a grocery store chain out of PA called Weiss. Just for spending a certain amount of groceries in a couple of months you can automatically qualify for a free turkey, ham, or boneless ham. Weiss brand. They keep track automatically you see it on your receipt. I just picked up my 20 lb. turkey free!

For years, Food Lion has done a "save 6 of 8 weeks worth of tickets" with a 75.00 purchase, and you get a 20.00 store coupon. Sweet deal, they also do this around Easter. They're the only grocery store around here for 20 miles so I get a free 20 bucks for doing my weekly shopping.
