Hey there! We are making an impromptu trip to Disneyland this coming weekend. :goodvibes Sadly, I am in the middle of a diet during which I'm not supposed to eat any sugar or starch. :sad1: I really don't want to cheat, since I've worked hard to lose this weight. I know we'll be walking a lot, but I still want to try to abide by the diet as much as possible. Yes, I know I'm going to miss out on the yummy pumpkin muffins, corndogs and baked potato soup. :guilty: At least we're going again in December when this particular phase of my diet will be over! :)

So here's my question: What yummy alternatives would you recommend? I'm planning on Oscar's salad (sans croutons) at Carnation Cafe and possibly the Sonoma Chicken Salad (sans bread bowl) at Pacific Wharf. Any other good ideas for in-park dining? Breakfast will be at our hotel, so I only need lunch and dinner suggestions.

I've considered the chicken Caesar salads that seem to be readily available, as well as chili if I avoid the beans in it. Where do you think has the best versions of those items?

Thanks for the help! :flower3:

Ribs at Taste pilots Grill, they may have some sugar, but you add sauce on yourself to make them "wet" you could pass on that.

IMO, it's vacation take one from your normal diet as well. Enjoy yourself rather then counting calories in your head all day.

Good for you!

There are several yummy salads at Pizza Port by Space Mountain.

A recent tip I learned about any of the bread bowl items: you can ask to be given the food (salad, soup etc) separate from the bread bowl, so that might make things easier for you.

La Brea Bakery, one of my favorite places to eat, is in DTD, just outside the security check point, so super convenient to the parks. They have tons of huge, delicious salads, good soup, and dishes with meat (I don't eat meat, so can't remember specifically those items).

A good source to see all the menus for all the places at the whole "Resort" is allears.net.

HTH!

I've been on a no starch diet myself and it does work very well. I didn't follow any specific plan. I just kind of did it on my own. I cut out four little things (okay, big things) from my daily diet, but I have to say the weight came off pretty quick when I did. I didn't eat any kind of bread, potatoes, pasta, or rice.

For Disneyland, as a snack or even as a meal, I would highly recommend the skewers at Bengal BBQ. They are so good! My favorite is the bacon wrapped asparagus skewer called the Safari Skewer. :thumbsup2

For actual meals, you do NOT have to stick to just salads. I would order whatever meal you wanted (that wasn't a pasta dish of course) and just not eat the bread and starchy side. Stick to eating the protein in the meal (chicken, beef, fish) and the vegetable side (and also the dinner salad if the meal comes with one). You'll find that you will be plenty full from the protein and veggies that you won't even miss the bread or starchy sides.

Disneyland also has an abundance of fresh fruit all over the place, and it's really good fruit too, although I'm not sure if natural sugars are off your diet too. If you can eat natural sugars, then go for the fruit. If not, then moving on. :goodvibes

They also have giant pickles to munch on, as well as turkey legs, although some people get grossed out seeing people munching on those big ol' turkey legs. My family happens to like them.

At the Pacific Wharf, you could also have the broccoli and cheese soup (sans bread bowl), which I've had many times and is very good.

If you can, bring some string cheese with you into the parks to snack on as well.

Hope you have a fantastic time and I'm sure you'll do great with your diet! :thumbsup2

Ooo, Bengal Barbeque! I'd forgotten about there! That will be on the list for sure. And good to know that the ribs at Taste Pilot's are "add your own sauce."

I've worked too hard to let this slide, so I really appreciate the advice. I'll get to splurge a little bit more on our trip in December and then next spring, so it's not too depressing!

And we're buying annual passes this trip, so I'm in a pretty great mood, regardless! :yay:

I know that the Banyan beef skewers have corn starch in the sauce, and I'm pretty sure some of the other sauces have sugar, so you may want to do some research beforehand in case that would alter your choices.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting the asparagus one as-is and the meat ones without the sauce.

I hate how there's hidden sugar and starch in almost everything!

I wanted to mention that many broccoli and cheese soups do have corn starch as well. I would probably just stick to salads to be safe. :) I'm sure you can do this!! Just believe in yourself and remember you can reward yourself when you go back in December. :) :) Even French Onion soup has some starch in it so just be careful with that. :)
I like the salads at Pizza Port, and I really like the Chicken Cesear at the Farmers Market in DCA, back behind PT Flea :) It's a very good cesear. I don't like the cesear at PP quite as much, the PP salad seemed more watery then the FM salad. Good luck!!!! You can do this!

Thanks for all the encouragement, pixiewings71! I found out about the starch in soups when I went to the grocery store last week. Seems that almost anything processed has some starch or sugar hidden in there, and I know Disney can't be making everything from scratch!

I'm going to pack a few healthy snacks for in between meals, and I'm sure I'll be fine! (Knowing that I'll be able to treat myself a bit more in December really does help!)

Sugar is gonna be a tough one to avoid. It will be in almost ALL the soups, salads (in the dressing), and almost every sauce imaginable. Just make sure you ask for sauces, dressings, etc. on the SIDE!

Good luck!

My dd and I did this last year. We ate the salmon salad at that little place by the Tom Sawyer rafts (Pacific Wharf?). We loved some of the offerings at La Brea. We splurged and split the surf & turf at Blue Bayou (Yum!!!). RFC has a grilled salmon on a plank dinner that is fabulous, but we did have to switch out the rice for grilled veggies. We also tried a steak/seafood combo at RFC (which we split) but preferred the salmon plank.

I have a severe sugar allergy, and have just returned from DL this afternoon. You can get some gummies in Pooh corner that are sugar free, and they do have some wonderful sugar free turtles with Malitol in them. As for food, the only things I had a problems with, are their cornbread (could taste the sugar in it), the sour dough bowls didn't bother me, but for some reason the fish N chips at the Stage Door Cafe did (could be just me and my protien allergies). I had the kids meal at the Plaza Inn many times with the pasts with marinara sauce without any problems. If you order at MIMI's, be wary of them as they give muffins with their meals, and suspect that alot of their meals have high amts of sugar in them. I would advise you if you plan on eating there check out their website, and you'd be surprised how much of their food has sugar in it. I also had the veggie gumbo, and the veggie chilli without problems. Hope that this helps you out. I was careful about what I ate, and tended to go for the more healthier options.
