at Disney.com 3 minutes later ?

( Don't know if this belongs on 'Planning' - apologies if yes )

This has never happened to us : just hung up with MS & they said no availability for studios at BWV on jul 6. So immediately upon ending call went to disney.com to check out what's available and on a whim took a look at BWV which showed studio available jul 6...

I seem to recall reading somewhere about room inventory being transferred at some point ? Is this the situation here ? I have to say I don't really understand because then it would seem like members are being blocked in a sense from making reservations close to a check in date. :confused3

Don't want to waste MS' time but I'm wondering if I should call them back ?

Thanks for any light that can be shed !

I'm no expert (others here are) but there are different inventories for DVC members and for central reservations--when people trade out (to like Interval International) their points become available to central reservations to be rented out to the general public. So it is moved from the DVC available unit list to the CRO available unit list and would not be available for points, just for cash.

hope that makes sense. I'm sure someone else will be along soon who can explain better.

I think this may have been what I was trying to recall; I seemed to remember something about inventory and you cleared it up for me !

It is disappointing to hear MS tell you no availability and then know it is available for cash reservation ! Oh well, will just have to hope wait list may come through or bite the bullet and think about doing cash reservation :(

Appreciate the information,
Laura

the cash reservations are not for points.

they come from the inventory that DVD kepts - for rehabs.

from exchanges to the concierge collection, cruises, WDW resorts any outside exchanges anywhere but II. (II kepts their but they are the only one)

DVC needs to pay cash for these - so they will take your points out of the DVC part and CRO will rent them.

now that say - when it becomes a heck of alot closer and you have an experience MS - they can sometimes change one for cash to points - but only if they have several in CRO inventory and they are fairly sure (10 days out) that no one will want one.

you need an experience MS to do this. Not a new one.

so if you can wait a little longer.

also any unused villa at 60 days goes to CRO to rent out.

I'm curious if a room classified as CRO would sit empty as opposed to allowing a DVC member have it at the last minute?

if only one - then yes they leave it.

if more than one and 10 days or less out - then depending upon the MS she might be able to get it for a member.

might because CRO has to agree - it takes a while - so be patient.

If I am understanding spiceycat's post it would seem that depending on CRO's inventory around 10 days or less MS may be able to have ability to do it as points reservation.

It would seem wasteful for rooms to sit out there and end up being unused either on the cash or points side.

Not to put a damper on things but you also need to remember that 4th of July week is one of the busiest of the year at WDW. I would make a cash ressie as a back up instead of having to move.

we're driving in from NY and thinking of getting on our way a day earlier so that's what put jul 6 into the picture. It wouldn't be a good idea to just take a chance on it without having a backup plan.

Probably.

The vast majority of rooms that CRO has up on the website are not owned by DVC. They either have not yet been bought by a member or they were used by a member to trade out and sold to CRO to pay for the trade. At that point DVC can't reclaim them.

Think about it like selling your old car to some stranger. You then need a second car. Even if he goes on vacation and leaves it sitting in his driveway, it isn't your car anymore to drive. Or the car you might buy next week, until you buy it, you can't drive it.

The exception is rooms that DVC turns over because they have gone unrented. Those can be reclaimed. But if there is a waitlist in place for your days, that means that those rooms haven't been turned over unrented.

The Disney website still has many resorts and room categories left to rent for the 4th of July week.

My sister will be down there and I'm praying for lower crowds for their sake. They went with me for their 1st trip in low season, and are now checking out the week of the 4th on their own.

Here is my plan I am on a wait list for July 3rd for a studio for SSR. I have a current cash reservation for annual pass discount price. If my wait list comes though great if not I have my cash night cheaper than DVC 25% discount. :bitelip:
