Just got a automated call from our school district....we are closed again tomorrow because of the cold!!

we are still waiting for our phone call (dh is a teacher, so gets called. For the kids' district, we wait for the TV to show it).

Most counties surrounding us have closed all their districts for tomorrow, but not ours yet.

You are kidding! Our windchills have been around -10 to -20 for about a week and we haven't been closed!:confused3

I think alot of it has to do with alot of our districts not having buses...And 20 below windchills are pretty uncommon for us....

us also...and the fact that our windchills this morning were even colder than that (more than 20 below, I mean), and will be the same tomorrow morning.

At this time yesterday, we'd been called off. Not today. I'm sure they'll be going tomorrow. No SuperBowl tongiht. :) We have busses.

Our kids have 2 hour delays...not that it's been any warmer by 9 am.

We were sent an email yesterday that there would be a 2 hour delay for today, due to the cold temps. Then, this morning they cancelled altogether. I just received another email that school will be closed tommorow too. Yes, it is very very cold ...but I am sort of shocked.

The kids, of course, are thrilled.

Wow! It must be really cold there. I only remember the school closing one time here in NH for the cold. It was the Friday before we were leaving for our Disney vacation about 3 years ago and the wind chill was -50. The kids didn't get their work to take on vacation and got an extra day off so they were pretty happy. My car wouldn't start that night either. The battery died and then the gas line was frozen. We got a new battery and then discovered the frozen gas line. We went to get dry gas to try to thaw out the line overnight and they were just closing. We had to bang on the door and beg them to let us in so we could go to the airport early the next morning. We couldn't even get a Dunkin Donuts coffee that night because their water lines were burst from the cold. I remember the people in Florida apologizing because it wasn't warmer down there and we told them it felt about 125 degrees warmer to us so we were happy. :woohoo: Don't you just love winter? I hope it warms up for you. There is nothing worse than that kind of bone chilling cold. :cold:

Ahh...well, that makes sense. We just moved here from sunny South Carolina, so this is a HUGE adjustment for us! I have never been this cold in my life, but there are so many people who don't even wear coats when it is 10 degrees!

I'm still waiting to find out if we're closed tomorrow. Today was the first time in eight years that we closed. Cleveland Municipal is closed so that's a good sign since our district is almost completely surrounded by them. I live in Euclid and they're closed but I just talked to my neice who lives two minuted away in Wickliffe and they aren't closed yet. I'll feel bad for her if they don't close tomorrow since they don't have any busses at all. At least my students can take RTA if they have to.

We are closed tomorrow, too. A lot of the kids around here walk to school and we are suppose to have a wind chill of 20 below. My kids are excited!
No School!

How cold is it where you are :confused3 ? The wind chill here was about -10 with the actual temp about 15.

Here it is 6 degrees, wind chill I think is between -10 and -15.

Overnight the air temperature is expected to drop to -1. (not sure what the expected wind chill is though)

Beth- I'm sure I've spoken to you before but I can't remember where you are. Our school -Madison-waits until everyone else in the county closes, I'm sure. Why can't they just list it on the 6 oclock news?!?

Right now it is 10 with a windchill of -12

Tonight they say -3 with windchills down over 20 below

Just got the news, we're closed again tomorrow! I'm kind of dreading Wed. though. I know the kids are going to be crazy after two unexpected days off.

We are off already too. I can't imagine why except the busses might be having problems. I don't live where I work so I have to rely on what my friend the play director hears from her actors. Also, we have 3 buildings on campus and the kids have to walk outside between classes. That will be fixed in 2 years when our addition is done. There are also walkers at our elementaries. One station said our wind chill could be around -25 tomorrow morning.
As for my own kids, nothing yet. Last night they called my district, but they didn't call where I live until 5:45. So I'm thinking our superintendent here just doesn't like to call it at night.
For those keeping score--I only have one snow day left before makeups! If the kids are closed tomorrow they will have 2 days left.
