No returns or exchanges on boxing day

DH got me some Merrell shoes and boots for Christmas that were a bit too big. This morning we went back to the store to exchange them. There was a sign on the door that said no exchanges or returns on Boxing Day. However, there was nobody, not one person, in the store except three employees standing chatting at the cash. We poked our heads in the store to ask if we could exchange the sizes and they said no.

Now, I can see having the policy for busy stores but this was a very large store that was completely empty.

I wasn't impressed. You'd think they'd want to get exchanges out of the way whenever the store wasn't busy.

Didn't the store realize that they could have made some money by taking exchanges? While looking around, you see something else you like and Bam...theres a sale.
