My drier suddenly stopped working! Had just finished second load of laundry and put clothes in drier, set timer, then went to push button to start and nothing (and it was working just fine an hour ago). I'm thinking a fuse may be blown (checked fuse box and setting for the drier was set to off instead of on). Switched it back to on, tried dryer again and nothing. I'm now thinking fuse was blown. So here's my question: How would I check to see if it is a blown fuse and not problem with dryer? Of course the plug for the dryer is not a standard plug (huge power cord with big outlet), so I cannot just plug something else into it to test. Any help/suggestions would be appriciated!

Depends on the type of fuse you have.

Have you tried to open the door and close it again? Sometimes mine won't start if something is caught in the door and it can't close just right.

Good luck!

I'll assume you have a snap type circuit breaker as opposed to a screw in fuse (old fashioned and rarely in homes anymore). If the breaker tripped it is "in the middle", you have to snap it to off and then snap it to the on position and power should come back on. If nothing, then check the door and make sure it is locked closed. Twist the dial past the cycles and try again.

Your drier has the "funny big plug" because it runs off of 220 volts instead of 110 like regular appliances in America.

Because of that you probably have 2 switches in the circuit breaker box. I had that happen with my drier and it didn't look like either switch had been tripped. But I turned each one to off and then back to on. Then my drier worked again.

Sometimes they have both switches kind of hooked together but sometimes not.
Hope this fixes it.

What's really fun is when the landlord wires the dryer into the same fuse box as the air conditioning! Sheesh! When the AC is running you may get about five loads of laundry done before the fuses ( and these you can't tell which of the three blew) goes.
