we have gold passes so will be blacked out of the parks on New Year's Eve. We check in to our DVC on the 1st and are debating if it is worth it to get a cash room for the 31st. Are there celebrations outside the parks that night that are worth checking out ?

If you're around the monorail resort area you'll get to see the perimeter fireworks and those from the Lagoon. I'm sure BLT's Top of the World bar has something. Grand Floridian has their countdown inside of the resort with a Balloon drop.

Boardwalk has a dance party with a countdown too if I recall at their Dance Hall.

If nothing has changed in recent years, New Years is one of the nights you have to be a DVC member who is staying at BLT to get into TotWL.

We stayed at the Boardwalk one year and there was a party on the Village Green. Lots if people, lots of fun!

Yeah, I'm presuming she's a DVC member as she's staying at a DVC (which isn't always necessarily true)

I concur.... There was a dj and lots of people on the green/Boardwalk. And a LOT less crowded than EPCOT.

We stayed at Fort Wilderness last year and there was a big party on the beach with a DJ, games, and they gave out noise makers and hats.

Most days of the year, you can access TotWL by being a DVC member staying on Disney property. New Year's is one of the blackout dates where you must be a DVC member staying at BLT to access the lounge. There's maybe 4 nights a year that fall under this rule.

I was thinking more of the new rules change - Are you considered a "DVC Member" if you buy points from a reseller and not Disney now?

Disney has said TotWL is still included for everyone, resale or not. But since most members who are affected are just closing and haven't yet traveled, we haven't seen how it will be handled in real life.

No I don't think so. You do NOT get a Member Card, which is what you need to show to get the added Perks, including access to the TOtWL
