I searched and couldn't find that this was posted anywhere yet. We just got back from WDW and were really disappointed to find out that they no longer sell the souvenir half yards of beer in the UK. The waitress at R&C said Disney told them to stop selling them because too many people were getting drunk!!??!! Now they have a 22 oz in a souvenir stein (no refills). Anyone know when this happened?

I don't know the answer to your question (and we were looking forward to a "yard" or two in May) ... BUT ...

I do have to say that is the CUTEST PUPPY!! :)

Ahhhh... my dh was looking for one this past October. He thought they might just not be available since the F&W was going on.

Too many people were getting drunk ..... and they weren't making money from it! They're just trying to force you to pay for more beer - plain and simple. Just another example of more fun being sucked out of the Disney experience!:sad2:

Thanks! Unfortunately as you know they only stay that way for 2 minutes! She's 2 years old now and weighs about 60 pounds!

That's what my DH said. A pint is $7.50 now. A half yard for $12.50 or a pint for $7.50-hmmm tough decision! Plus the half yard refills were even cheaper! Total bummer that they're gone!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Sorry, but the reasoning just cracks me up. They put a pub in the middle of a theme park and sell souvenir half-yards with a discount on refills and then act surprised when people drink too much? :lmao: :lmao:

It's a total bummer that they've done away with this - the hubby and I loved to buy the half-yard of Boddingtons. Yum!

Yeah-do they really think this will stop people from getting drunk? They'll just buy more pints, and of course that means spend more money. This is just what the waitress told us when we asked for one at R&C (they're still on the menu!). I'm sure financial concerns played a major part in the decision!

WOW how disappointing. My DH got one last time and they are great souveniers. Right now my DH is using it for extra money to save up for his fishing trip in May. The reason behind getting rid of the 1/2 yard beer is just insane, you watch next they'll get rid of the Margaritas.:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

No way, too popular, they'll just make them smaller and charge more for them.

Do you happen to remember how much the steins were and how much the cost? Also, are they plastic or glass?

I think they were $12.50 for 22 oz and they are glass. Also, no refills. I liked that the half yards were plastic-much less stress about breakage.

I bought a souvenir stein during the F&W festival. It was $12.25 for the plastic stein and 22oz of beer (no refills).

I have to admit that I could never figure out how to drink out of those yard glasses. Everytime that I got to the bottom part, I couldn't drink it without having it splash all over my face (because of the way you'd have to tip it).

befor you reach the bottom gentely twist in a clockwise direction and keep turnning, this stops the bubble from cascadeing down on you. A proper yard of ale has 2 and a 1/2 pints in it.:thumbsup2

I did post about this in the beer thread about a week ago. The story I got from the senior bartender there is that the FLA Board of Health have been after them for a few years since they say refills are unsanitary as the non-cleansed half yard comes in contact with the tap heads and this is why they shut it down...sounds plausible to me.

A tip from the birthplace of Boddingtons itself :thumbsup2

I can't believe they no longer do half-yards :confused3 Come ye, Come ye, Lushes of the World to the UK... I'll treat you to a half yard ;) I like the ones with cocktails in better, but a tad more lethal :drinking1

I still can't believe they don't sell WKD in the R&C

Dare I talk about canceling my trip :rotfl2: First Spaceship Earth and now no Yards!!! My dh and I both had one (ok, 2 each) last October. I took both my dh and mine home. During the summer, I had the smart idea to put them in the dishwasher after using them. They got cloudy and reshaped (what was I thinking :confused3 , then again perhaps I wasn't :drinking1
My kids collect pins, I was looking forward to collecting more Yards :rolleyes1
Oh well, I'll just have to order something else when we are there in a couple of weeks

Well if that is the case then why not say so. What you say does make perfect sense and I can see that others would feel the same, but to act as though drunkenness was the issue is just plain stupid. We can get a drink or two in each country and get wasted by the end even more so with the mixing of booze. Disney should just say they are concerned about spreading germs.

OK, so EVEN if this was the case, which I understand since I take quite a few cruises and they do not want anyone refilling their water bottles with juice, water, icetea and lemonaid from the self-serve stands for this reason, why not just serve us the beer in the yards without refills?:surfweb:

It only has to do with MONEY and the suits feeling that Disney is somehow not making enough of it. I refuse to believe that this apparent decision had anything to do with public health or drunkeness...otherwise, the Food and WINE festival should be cancelled as well.

agnes!
