WHY do the boats bang together? They were never that close before?

We were at Disneyland four weeks ago and noticed that they weren't loading the back row on Pirates.

How could you hurt a finger from boats bumping together? Would you have to be reaching all the way back over your shoulder so your hand is directly behind the stern? Or turned sideways so you can drape an arm over the p00p deck?

I would have thought you could lose a finger by hanging an arm over the side when the boat hits a bumper or rail, but not when boats bump together.

During peak times there are more boats going thru the ride and when you get towards the end part with the dog with the key is you have a back up of a good number of boats waiting to get to the unload station. Since there are so many boats they bump together as they line up and all push along to the unloading station.

Seems to me like this is a case of having to protect against the idiots of the world. IMO if you don't follow directions (keep hands in the boat) and get your fingers cut off in a ride, serves you right.

Maybe but if boats from behind are bumping into the boat in front quite strongly people with everything inside the boast could still injure backs or necks. Not all accidents are due to personal stupidity.

Could it be that they're suspending use of that row short term, while they determine exactly what happened to the man who lost parts of two fingers a week or so ago on Pirates?

My guess is that it's a temporary measure, until they can determine exactly what happened and until any liability questions are cleared up.

I agree. We haven't heard exactly what happened in either accident, everyone is quick to call people stupid without the facts.

Maybe suspending use of the back row is more about the water the boats have been taking on. Maybe they're trying to go for a smaller weight load.

Regardless, it's very unfortunate to need to diminish ride capacity in any way with standby lines longer now than ever.

Except for the fact that the UK gentleman was quoted right after the incident, but multiple witnesses including EMS, as saying that he was stupid and put his hand in the water. I think his own words say enough about exactly what happened.

That doesn't mean that Disney's lawyers are comfortable that the matter is closed. My guess is that they suggested the last row not be used untill the investigation is over.
