the thread of the 1715 shipwreck got me going, so I called the resort twice and both times they said they do not nor never have rented metal detectors anywhere on property. Tried to rent one in my town too with no luck. Oh well!

Buy an inexpensive one at WM, I think they had 2 different ones. I thought DVC did have them though, I know we went on an excursion to the beach and was thinking they had them for rent. Did you talk to the activities desk or front desk. Also, I'm sure there are companies in the area that rent roll aways and the like, they may have them.

You might try this company listed at http://www.verobeachmagazine.com/directory.cfm.

Rentals-Sports Equipment & Services:

Orchid Island Rentals
Web Address:
Phone: 561 234-3436

or this one at http://www.onnetmall.com/mall/treasurediversofmiami/, if they don't have a close site, they may be able to recommend one.

And this trip report says they got one free from Eb and Flo's http://www.mouseplanet.com/dtp/trip.rpt/report_files/offsiteDVC/holland00.htm

And ths talks about renting one http://members.aol.com/DisneyNnut/DVCarchive.html

And this is a more professional company, I don't know if they rent or sell http://metaldetectors.webshq.com/show.php3?Which=720796

This is the host from the 1715 thread hosting the get-together.VB did have metal detectors and for some reason they ditched them this year.:(.I use my own but I use to get one for DD,DW at Ebb and Flo's for no charge. They had a few of them on hand.Someone is feeding false info at the resort. The coils were water proof but my guess is maybe people took them in the water which is a no no for the models they had and for the salvage laws.(Salvagers can file a complaint if they see people in the water with metal detectors no matter how shallow,it is finders keepers on the Beach unless it is protected land)They are not high maintainence other than battery replacement. If you buy a metal detector make sure it can be used on salt water beaches and a waterproof coil. If not you will get a lot of false "hits" which will drive you crazy and salt water spray will render it useless.Try to find one that has a headphone jack. Mike

Perhaps we owners should request that this is a rental option that is offerred. It could certainly pay for itself. Or, our dues could all be increased by $0.00001 to provide these. Treasure hunting on the treasure coast sounds pretty consistent with our theming.

I rented one at the Vero Beach resort two years ago? I think it was $5 at the video/towel window by the pool. We found some pop tops and stones.
