If you have magic bands from a prior trip you can use them if you want. No charging privileges but you can use them for park entry, fastpasses and photopass. Or you can buy magicbands if you want. But as pp said, not necessary.
You can use the card that you'll receive when you purchase theme park tickets at the gate or thru WDW site.
Or if you already have a MB, you can link it to your tickets.
If you don't have MB and didn't receive a card (have a voucher instead), visit Guest Relations. They'll issue a card with a RFID chip to tap at touch points that work like MBs for entering the park, using FP at rides, and linking your MDE.
My son's trip with his HS band was onsite but they didn't get MBs, just cards and they worked fine enough.

Any ticket window can provide a card for each of your tickets. Just wanted to mention since ticket windows often have much shorter lines than Guest Relations.

Can you guys not use your phones like we do at DL? I've only been to WDW once and the FP didn't work right so I just didn't use it. It was a solo trip and I didn't really need it. At DL we can open the FP up in the app and scan it in from there. But maybe that's because Magic Bands aren't at Land yet?
