we have tried several times to book january and february on a premium site at fort wilderness campgrounds using our dvc points only to be told that there is NO INVENTORY. we left a message on the 'comments' and got a message back saying to try in 2-weeks time which we did but still NO INVENTORY

can anyone suggest what we do next

We bought enough points to stay the winter at the Fort and the year we bought then there was no problem at all. The next year we got a couple of weeks on points and now we don't even try to use them at the Fort. WE WERE LIED TO!!!!!

What's been discussed here over the years, pupmuff, is that while a few folks can and have relayed that they did DVC points for Fort campsites, many like you have said they can't. I don't recall if those discussions were for lengths as long as you were looking for.

That makes me think the number of sites available to use DVC points is limited. EVERY available site may not be able to be "paid" for with DVC points.

Sort of like when auto dealers advertise a brand new car for a ridiculously low price. Yes, they may have ONE unit available and after it sells the rest of the customers coming in asking about it get the upsell sales pitch.

Did you check to see if a Premium was available for booking for your dates if you were paying cash like a regular guest stay?

1) Yes.
2) Campsite QUANTITIES available for DVC points are limited, just as they are for rooms at resorts for Free Dining.
3) Not every campsite (or room at a regular resort) is open for DVC points.
4) Campers would be upset if they could not get their desired sites due to DVC people claiming them.
5) Can you imagine the uproar if holidays got consumed by DVC and other campers couldn't find a site?
6) Can't upset the cash-paying public.
7) After all, cash customers can go elsewhere, DVC people are captive. *

* DVC folks can go elsewhere using points, but the point maintenance fees and point use-value still remain with WDW. Regardless how DVC owners think about their points, as WDW, we have you. In fact, when I work DVC Resorts (OKW, WL, SSR), this topic comes up often among us.

Looking at January on a cash basis, it is open for a 4 week reservation beginning Sunday Jan 10. That is the conclusion of the Marathon weekend and the Fort gets booked by runners (as do other resorts) coming in for the weekend on top of their regular guest load. I stayed at the Fort this year when I did the Half. Since registration for the races opens (and fills up in a day or two) in April, I would think most folks make a resort reservation in April for January once they know they are successfully registered for the race.

ONLY Premiums are available for that period probably because the more affordable site types are booked up for the MLK 3-day weekend later in the month.

In February going out on Sunday Feb 28 there is availability at all levels.

they did ask us if we were using cash or points but we didn't go down that road as it's much too expensive
