Urghh, We moved into a new office 3 years ago in January. The number for my new phone line just happen to be the old number of a gov't office, which converted to a 800 line. So since day 1 I have gotten hundreds, if not thousands of calls for this office on my line  (I suppose it could be worse, my boss got their old fax line  ) People will argue with me that they have a newly published this or that from where ever showing this number. I try to be polite and explain that this is indeed my phone number and I have it for over 3 years now, that the information they have is incorrect. The next question usually is, well do you have the correct number then? I answer no, they hang up in a huff, mad at me! :confused3 Know wonder the office had the number changed!

Ack! When I first started here my number must have been an old fax line. For clost to three months it was constant with the fax machines calling. It drove me nuts and they wouldn't change my number!

Ya , see I could have gotten stuck with the old screeching fax line...that would have been MUCH worse!

I think I would just learn the number, and give it to them. A lot less time and effort as well as irritation!

Can't you get your numbers changed? I'd think that the expense in doing so would be well worth it!

I finally got a private number after being stalked by a client. I called the phone company and they gave me 4 numbers to choose from when I told them DS had learning disabilities and needed to make it easy for him to remember. The first 4 months we got 10 to 12 faxes every night between 1 and 5 AM. We finally called and changed the number, now we just get calls from bill collectors who do not believe we are not who they are calling for. :scratchin It is much better than getting all those calls all night though, lol!

We tried, there is only the general 800 number which everyone seems to have, people want the exact locations office number which is no longer published. They are trying to hide! :rotfl2:

My home number used to belong to a woman who apparently cleaned houses. I'd find long, rambling messages on my machine like "I got your number from Lucy and I'm having a party on Saturday please call me right away!" The people whose calls I answered were usually cool about it but some asked for her new number (I had no way to even find it out- most only knew her first name anyway!)

I also got lots of fax calls at first- do cleaning ladies often get faxes :rotfl: ?

A few years back I had a home number that ended in 3600- I got so many telemarketers selling business supplies! But they'd back off when I said it was a home number.

Chicago526 -We should have done that YEARS ago. Just didn't think it would have gone on this long. But now everyone knows our #'s and it's on our cards etc. Too much of a hassle. Some day they will stop publishing it as there own :worship:

winniedapooh -I feel for you! we took the easier numbers too... not so smart now.

I have a similar number as a lawyer in tow. Mine starts wil 361 his is 366 (last 4 are the same). 361 and 366 used to be the maim 2 first 3 numbers in my town.

I get a few messages a week left by his clients. I used to call them back in the to tell them they had the wrong number but now I dont even bother. I have had this number for 9 years.

:lmao: Can you blame them? Some pretty irritating people have been trying to reach them!

I remember when I got out of the Navy and moved to my first apartment, the phone number I had use to belong to a...ummm...how should I put it, a "Working" girl named "Princess". Well, I use to get calls at all times of the day and night. The first time I got a call regarding this Princess, this guy on the other end asks, "Umm, I'm looking for Princess, and I need to know how much?" I'm like, what?! I actually had a good laugh about it at first, but then it got real old. And then my mom came for a visit and answered the phone....oooops. :lmao: The look on her face. I'll never forget that look. That was the only phone number I had problems with.

I once was assigned a number that apparently just weeks before had belonged to the Lincoln family. I'd get calls day and night (most notably from the psych ward at the local hospital  ) for them. I finally changed my outgoing answering machine message to say it was definitely NOT the Lincoln residence. I can't count how many still left messages for them saying they knew this was their number  Did I not just say it wasn't???

As a child we had a number that was 1 digit off from the local newspaper. Ours ended in 8 and theirs ended in 3 so it was easy to see why it would be mistaken. We constantly got calls from people who didn't get their paper and would scream at us not believing they had the wrong number.

I used to have a 1(800)# for business. It was fine when I first got it, but then after a few years Macy's Credit Office got a number that was one digit off from mine. My phone message was very clear, I think at one time the message even said that "This number is NOT Macy's". People would call me all the time, sometimes even leaving messages on my system with personal information like their accounts numbers or sometimes credit card #s.

I would also occasionally get calls for Embry-Riddle Technical College's Office of Student Assistance.

agnes!

Our home phone number has a one digit difference from a very very old lady. Either she gives out my number to all her very very old friends or they all make the same mistake and dial my home. I get about one call a week for this woman, I figured out her number and pass it along. They argue with me, saying that they have the right number and I insist that they don't. THere is one caller who is really nice and I enjoy teasing her about it - we usually have a nice chat for a couple minutes.

my mom has this problem with her cell phone, people call everyday wanting to speak with Dorothy, my mom is really tired and sometimes the people act like she is lying probably because this person has collection agencies calling , walgreens calls to let us know her prescriptions are ready, her workplace lets us know she needs a physical, the mall calls when they have an item she wants, it goes on and on. my mom called sprint they said that they dont give old numbers away and she just give everyone my moms number.I dont think so, maybe the collection people but the mall?
