No Hospitality House category for grand villas at Old Key West?

We are looking into purchasing an Old Key West contract, specifically for the grand villas. However, it looks to me like there is no option to select "hospitality house" when booking a grand villa?

Are the grand villas located all throughout the resort, or are most near hospitality house anyway and this is why no category option is listed?

GVs are scattered throughout the resort. There are only 2 near HH, but they are a booking category.

Okay, thank you! I was looking at the DVC availability tool and it did not list Grand Villas as having a HH booking category...

All OKW grand villas have the same point cost. Originally there was ho "near Hospitality House" booking category for any OKW rooms. DVC added that as a separate guaranteed booking category many years ago, and there are only two GV's in that booking category. Do not purchase OKW under the belief that you will be able to easily get GV's near the Hospitality House. If you do so, you are likely to be severely disappointed. Year round, those near-Hospitality-House GV's usually fill within nanosecocds after the 11-month reservation window opens for any given date. The winners are simply those whose computers communicate faster with Disney's computers at 8 a.m. at 11-months out than others also trying to get them.

As to the DVC availability tool, I do not know which one you are looking at. The official one used by members for making reservations on the DVC member site does have a separate booking category for "Near Hospitality House" GVs, although for most times, you will find them only in the "Not Seeing What You Want" "View Other Rooms" category for rooms already booked but which can be wait-listed. I have at times seen ones created by brokers who do rentals that do not show such GVs, probably because they know it is near impossible to get one.

Wonderful, this is the just the information I was looking for, thank you! In checking touring plans room finder, it looks like a lot of the grand villas are nearly as close to HH as the designated "HH" ones are anyway.

And we wouldn't be set on being near HH, so it would just be a bonus...

Although I would not necessarily say a lot of non-HH GVs are fairly close to HH, there are some that are not really far. However, getting any particular area other than HH is a non-guaranteed request when making a reservation. Other than the HH GVs, owners can usually easily reserve GVs at 11 months out, and for more than half of the time in the DVC "off-season," which runs from mid-Jan to late Sep, one can even get an OKW GV at 7-months out. All those GVs are very nice and spacious rooms and a bargain in comparison to GVs elsewhere. A possible downside for some is that they begin on the second floor and most buildings have no elevators, and thus one needs to climb stairs to get to them.

The HH GV’s go fast, so you might not see availability for them. When you get your contract, safest bet is to make reservations at 11 months for those.

This is true for certain times of the year. There is still a full week in March 2021 available, there is like 12 days in a row still. We bought a 100 point OKW contract to get a GV every 3 years or so with banking and borrowing to take friends and family. We lucked out in the fall of 2020, we only had 200 OKW points to use and booked 4 nights for a non HH GV, we didn’t want to risk the booking HH and not getting the remaining days at 7 months. Luckily the dates were still there. To our surprise the 2 days needed at 7 months were still available in the HH category too, but that was too much of a gamble.

I am shameful, we bought OKW for GV every three years, bank and borrow. For the last three trips we have walked our reservation to ensure we get HH GV. And yes, Christmas 2020 we started the walk the first week of December when it popped open as other people were walking from mid November.

Yeah I feel no need to walk a reservation because OKW is not that large of a resort. Since I have a double stroller though, it is nice being near the HH. We had a 9 night stay booked for November in a grand villa not near HH. On the last day of me adding on the final day to our trip, I realized near HH was available for all 9 nights even though it had not been available before that. Because someone else was walking the room and I was paying enough attention, we were able to get that for all 9 nights. I feel no need in walking the reservation ever, but since Disney allows it, I can see why people do it. But to me, if I really wanted to be at the first bus stop and I was staying in Turtle Pond, I would just walk to the first bus stop. It is a 10 minute walk at the most.

There are only two GVs in the HH booking category and both are in Building 25. Buildings 15, 16, 29, and 63 have GVs and are all also a close walk to HH but are not included in the booking category.

GV's are found in Buildings 15,16,19,22,25,29,43,48,49,51,53 and 63.

Thank you for the clarification! That's what I thought when looking at the map - that there were several that weren't part of the HH booking category, but looked awful close to HH.

So, even if you don't get the HH booking, you can always put in a request for those other 4 buildings and hope you get them...
