You must have missed all the chest-beating threads on the DVC boards when that was announced - it was quite a while ago - 6 months or more. I don't think it's related to the dining plan, though. It was in response to "guest" interests or something, don't you know? (although I really don't think it was DDP related).

I think they confuse guests want more variety with removing favorite items and adding......stuff

DH tried that gelato last year. He said it was awful and wound up throwing it away which was upsetting b/c it was overpriced to begin with. He was so looking forward to it too.

There's some in the freezer, prepackaged. There's not a big assortment, only like 3 flavors to choose from. But yeah the hand dipped case has been long gone.

There is no more HOMEMADE gelato at the BC. They do have individual portions in the freezer. Flavors here are chocolate, cookies and cream and no sugar added mango. I tried the mango and it was good.

They have added additional items like pastries and such. IMHO, it is probably better to have more breakfast items available since counter service is scarce in the area. Beaches and Cream takeout is near-by if you need a frozen treat fix and the prepackaged stuff doesn't do it for you.

I don't blame the dining plan on THAT decision. I'm sure it wasn't pulling in enough of a profit to make it worthwhile to keep it there.

all they had of the pre-fab was the cookie and cream. We used to like the mango. We went and got some at publix.

I actually emailed DVC Member Services when it happened - it was right at end of March, as we went in March, and it was still there during that trip as that was the last time we were able to get some.

They said it was Beach Club's decision, as they needed more room for other food items, as per guest requests. The supervisor I spoke with said that Beach Club is still making 1 fresh/homemade flavour each day, and it will be pre-packed alongside the other third party Gelato product in the case. He also said that Hurricane Hannah's will be selling prepacked as well.

We just returned and didn't go to Beach Club to check it out, as we are very upset with this decision, as this was one of our best family activities. We didn't feel like eating packed gelato, so we didn't even go 1x during our 2 week trip. We normally ate the gelato multiple times on each trip, so we were really missing it. Our DD7 was very upset that they have done this.

So, since I haven't tasted it, I can't comment on quality or taste, but I will say that we really missed going to BCV and getting the gelato this trip, and strolling along the Boardwalk, hand in hand, while walking under the stars, after a long day of parks.

I haven't forgiven them since they discontinued the pistachio gelato. It had an ugly beige color, but the best pistachio flavor. If it's true that there'll be a "flavor of the day" from the BC, I can always hope that one is pistachio.
