No Frozen Food For Us - Disney Dining Report 12/9-12/16, 2014

Just dh and I for our annual Christmas trip. None of our adult ds joined us, yippee!

12/9 - Pizza Planet We just had a quick snack here to share. A meat lovers pizza. It was ok.

Rose and Crown Candlelight Processional Package Our adr was for 5:00 pm for the 8:15 show. I do use a wheelchair but never bring it into a rest. to eat.
Dh informed them of this when we checked in. Well after about 20 mins of just waiting and observing every size party who checked in after us being seated. We finally waited another 10 mins, yup, count em, over 30 mins. before we ever got seated and then it just went downhill from there. I should say we have eaten here several times.

We were seated in the covered plastic area. It was cool but no cold. It took at least another 30 minutes to just get our apps. And of course there is no bread served here. So we were really hungry. We were told to order apps, entree and dessert at once. no prob.
Apps - Dh had the salmon. He said it was good
I had the potato leek soup. Good as usual.
By 6:30, an hour and a half after checking in we still didnt have our entrees. I asked the server. He said they were backed up because of the cp pkgs. He must have known I had about had it. He sent some girl over to cheer me up. I told her we just want our food. Then the chef came out to talk to the table next to us. No help there. She was not in the kitchen like Gordon Ramsey telling her line cooks to push out entrees.
Hmm,should we complain to a manager, no luck there. The manager himself was busy serving entrees to the 8 person table next to us. Thies was not going well at all.
Finally we got our entrees
Dh - Fish and hips - fine, needed more tarter sauce
Me - steak and fish and chips. - very good.

Dessert Dh - sticky toffee pudding - he liked it
Me - panacotta no sugar added dessert. I didnt need this for dietary reasons, but it sounded good so I wanted to try it. I liked it alot.

Altogether, we were there over 2 hours. Totally unacceptable. I was wondering how the candlelight line would be by the time we got there. But we were the 2nds ones in the wheelchair line but if we were regular people, the line was well past Japan by then.

Net year i will possibly rethink this place or speak up some more etc. Honestly if we didnt have the package, I would have paid for what we did eat and just walk out.

Wed 12/10/14

Java Bar at the Swan - Breakfast
Dh went down and got breakfast. I just asked for a blueberry muffin and maybe some yogurt. The muffin was moist with lots of blueberry. I think I liked it better than the one at the BC/YC Marketplace. it did look like the same wrapping. I think we shared a yogurt parfait. That was good too. Dh had a croissant.

Boardwalk Bakery Lunch I saw everyones pictures of the Lobster Roll and thought dh would like this. I dont care for lobster. Well we ordered the lobster roll, roast beef sand. the soup of the day was corn chowder and for dessert I had a fruit tart and dh had something with key lime. We ended up sharing everything. The roast beef sand. has a horseradish sauce. A little tangy for my liking. Dh said he didnt care for the lobster roll all that much. I thought it was fresh and god. The soup was good. There was a cool breeze blowing. Also got to observe a little truck bringing the chairs for the new italian rest. on the boardwalk. The fruit tart was loaded with fruit and dh liked the key lime dessert. Also the cucumber salad side seemed to have alot of vinegar in it.

Chefs de France dinner Dh and I always love this place. We both had the prix fixe. We ordered the lobster bisque and short ribs. Dh commented that it looks like the serving size has def. decreased. The polenta is a nice change from the pasta they used to serve with this dish. For dessert
Dh - chocolate mouse - He didnt care for it
Me - Profiteroles - great as usual. Dh eyed mine and wished he had it, sorry I was not sharing!

Thursday 12/11/14

We knew we had an early adr for MVMCP so we just went toItaly - World Showcaseand shared a cannoli and a hot chocolate. This was good but messy and I honesty couldnt see eating this in the summer.

Dinner before MVMCP - Liberty Tree Tavern
We always like it here too. We saw them turning people away without adrs. Dh and I were enjoying the meal - I liked the roasted corn side dish. The rolls were good. We liked everything really...and then it happened!!!!! Dh and I were quietly enjoying our meal. We had noticed a table next to us with extended family. All of a sudden I felt something hit me on my head and shoulder. I should say it was my right side. I am glad it was not my left side because on that side half my neck is cut out due to my cancer surgery and I really cant turn my neck well anymore anyway, so I honestly didnt see what happened. Dh said he saw the whole thing!!! The dad at the table next to us made a napkin snowball. He threw it at his kid, the kid ducked and it hit me. I was just staring at them and the grandma too because I thought their son had done this and I would think an apology would have been in order. But none happened. Later the dad came over to apologize and he said it was his fault and he bought our meals. Really an apology would have been fine. Dh is really overprotectie of me and he did say something abut the guys lack of manners etc but the guy made the first comment about himself anyway. Honestly I just wanted to eat and get out of there.

Then our server cleaned up or whole table and told us our meals were paid for by the other guy etc. Well that was nice however we were not even done eating and dh wanted more since we were saving our appetites and didnt eat all day practically. He apologized and brought more food.

We thought the dessert was ok, but the cake was a little dry.

MVCMCP - Snacks We didnt buy anything special but just had hot chocolate at Tortuga Tavern. It was not hot at all and a little watered down it seemed. The cookes get worse each year. The cm told dh they were snickerdoodles, um, I dont think so. You think they could at least put some green or red sprinkles, sugar etc. on them to make them look a little more christmas themed. Later we had more hot chocolate and cookies at Crystal Palace
I think this place was only open for a few hours, much shorter than the other places. But it was was nice and warm in there and the cm's were singing christmas carols. A very nice touch.

Friday 12/12/2014
Lunch
Flame Tree BBQ Dh and I just shared a turkey leg meal. He ate the beans. I liked the cole slaw. I asked dh to get the key lime desset because again I have seen others post pictues and it looked good. He came back with choc and said, you dont eat tart things etc. Oh well. I must also say I hope the remodel comes with better handicapped seating. While I dont sit in the wheelchair to eat, we generally fold it up, it was even hard finding a place to fold it up and store it.

Dinner Cape May Buffet This is always a must because dh loves crab legs. I dont care for them all that muchl. The soup of the day was tomato basil. I tried it. A litle too much basil for me. I had dh get my plate because of my mobility issues, so I really didnt see what was up there. The cold peel and eat shrimp were good as was the house made salad. I love anything with dried cranberries in it and I think he got me olive salad. A little salty but good. I had the carved beef. I like med. Dh brought something that looked rare. He said that was all they had. The server saw we both didnt touch it and she said we could ask for something more done. Dh did that the next time for me. It was nice and not much pink. I think I had vegs and mac and chese maybe and mashed potatoes. I cant remember if he got me some kind of pasta. Dh was happy with his crab legs and corn bread. The desserts were good. I think they had some new kind of pistachio dessert which we both liked and I like the flan. Maybe there was something red velvet too? We checked in really early here and asked if we could be seated earlier. She said no, you will just be seated closer to your reg. time. Fine, we took the beeper. 10 minutes later and we were in!
This place is always on our list to return to.

Lunch Electric Umbrella - Epcot
Dh had the French Dip Burger and liked it
I had the ceaser salad with chicken - it was good
We both had the strawberry chesecake. It was really busy here and everyone seemed to be waiting for a table.

Dinner Yachtsman Steakhouse
We were really looking forward to this meal. Dh is a real steak kind of guy. It was not our first time here and if anyone remembers I wrote a post of how we went there for our anniversary and an annoymous person named Erin paid for our meal.
Well as soon as we were seated our server, who I should say was very sweet but because of her accent dh and I really had a hard time understanding her for the whole meal. I did notice she was trying her best for us. Anyway, I do like to dress appropriately for here, but the boat was running slow and we couldnt get back to the hotel to change, so I just had on my park clothes, black cropped pants etc. sneakers. I noticed the couple who was seated next to us walked in with the dw in practically daisy duke shorts. Well as soon as we sat down the server said, I must apologize to you for the crying baby. Well the baby was not screaming but cry it did for a great deal of our meal. If I was seated near this family I would have asked to have a different seat. No I am not anti kids, We have 3 grown one so we have been there and done that. I just knew if the server was apologizing I knew it would not go well etc. Maybe the manager asked her to say this. Obviously the family was not leaving. Dont blame them though. Its their vacation too. I think she apologized again when she brought us some food. By that time the pitch was getting a little higher. and constant. I am sure the manager was thinking it was the best way to handle it.

The rolls here were sourdough and onion - I didnt care for the onion
We both got the lobster bisque - very good
Dh ordered a a ribeye med rare
I ordered New York strip -medium.
We both ordered the twice baked potato
and for sides dh wanted the sauteed onions, creamed spinach and fire roasted corn

Dh steak looked terrible. He didnt send it back though. He should have. It was really fatty.
He said he wish he had ordered mine. It was really good.
dessert - I had the creme brule. It was good.
dh - seasonal sorbet. The server told us the flavors would be pear, raspberry and something else I forgot.
The pear was really good. Dh also asked me to try the raspberry and it didnt taste like it. Dh asked the server what it was. She asked the chef and said it was raspberry and cranberry and the chef was trying to be creative. Um nice,but what if there was someone who had an allergy to cranberries etc. They should be more informed I think. That could have been a big problem for someone.

It was a really expensive meal and dh was not happy, so I think next time we will go back to Shulas and see how that is.

Breakfast Garden Grove Character Buffet at the Swan Dh and I got there really late, I think more closer to 11. The characters were only there once but we were going for the food. The family after us didnt even get to see the characters.
The chef made us ham and cheese omelets which were really good. The fresh fruit was good. Our server was kind of disappearing all the time. Once she even took the coffee pot away and dh was not done. I liked the croissant and dh had some cereal. I wanted more fruit, but they already put it away so dh got me a banana. I noticed the family next to us wanted fruit too They ended up with whole fruit - apples and bananas and maybe an orange. Its a good alternative if you cant get into a disney character breakfast, but its only 2 characters I think and they dont take the dining plan.

Dinner - Hollywood Brown Derby This has been a place dh and I have always enjoyed until now. Unfortunately I think this place will be off our list. Its too expensive and the food quality is just not there. We asked to be seated on the top level because of my mobility issues. Well the server proceeds to lead us over to the stairs. We said no etc. Well they scrambled a top table for us. Not starting off well.
Rolls -they were ok
apps - Dh had the field greens salad
me - cobb salad app size. it was still huge

entrees
Dh and I both ordered the chicken. DH said his was undercooked but didnt want to send it back. Mine was fine.
dessert - we shared the dessert trio. Dh had to have a mini grapefruit cake and was totally disappointed. I forgot what the other 2 we got to share were. It was probably one or two bites each.
I dont think we will be back here.
All the time I kept thinking I had an adr for Hollywood and Vine (which I cancelled and posted on the boards) and gave it up for this??? Maybe we could try Mama Melrose next time, something new.

Monday 12/15/2014

Lunch Chefs de France Dh and I couldnt decide where to have lunch, so we tried walking up here and were promptly seated.
We both got the prix fixe lunch
Dh and I both had the lobster bisque for the app. Are you seeing a pattern here?
For the entree dh had - croque monsieur
me - ham and cheese quiche
Dessert - dh - profiteroles - I guess he wanted his own after I wouldnt share mine with him at the other dinner
me - seasonal sorbet - this was really good and the fruit was great but the passionfruit flavor was pretty sour.

Dinner Be Our Guest We have eaten here several times before and we tried to check in early, but no such luck. We were told we could come and check in only 15 minutes before our adr. We also observed them turning many walk ups away. I know some may get lucky but I couldnt help feel sad for some of the little girls when I saw their faces. honestly, cant just the mom or dad go see themselves what is available etc.
We were in the main ballroom. You can also see my post about how salty the food was here. I think its off our list too at least for dinner because of this.
apps - dh had the French Onion Soup
me - Potato Leek soup
Entrees - dh had the steak and fries and said the fries tasted like a salt shaker but the steak was good
me - chicken - I liked the light creamed spinach sauce but the chicken itself also tasted like someone dumped a salt shaker on it.
dessert - we both had the eclair and they were ok

Jave Bar at the Swan We jsut had a muffin and croissant because we were leaving

Also we stopped in Main Street Confectionery at MK the night before and got stuff to take home for the ds. We got peanut butter cup, choc. nut cluster, mickey gingerbread cookie (I at this myself) really good. And cookies - Big Mickey shaped head and I got frozen themed ones - a snowflake, Olaf and reindeer. Also an olaf pop and some other cake pop that was suppose to be red velvet. The ds said it was undercooked or mushy. Also the usual caramel corn and caramel corn with nuts, gummies and they love the white chocolate christmas striped covered pretzels so we bought 2 bags of those. They wanted the red candy apples but I didnt see them anywhere. Do they have these anywhere??

So nice to see your thorough reviews! I hope you had a great trip! It sounds like you did a lot! How wonderful you got to go with just your DH~
Did you stay at the Swan? If so, how do you like it compared to the Beach Club?

I'm so sorry you had such a poor experience at Rose and Crown for the Candlelight Processional Package. How disappointing, things like that can ruin the whole experience even if the food is decent/good. My DD and I did the CPP 3 years ago for the first time and R&C was the only restaurant available (last minute trip). I was disappointed but completely pleasantly surprised how good it was! Food, service, everything. I think all of the Disney restaurants can be so hit or miss. I also had the steak and fish and chips and it was good too. And sticky toffee pudding...yum!!!
What narrator did you see for the CP?

We've never had lunch at the Boardwalk Bakery before, we'll have to try it. We love the breakfast sandwiches there, so I have hopes for lunch! thank you for your review!

What a crazy story about your LTT dinner! It's just another example that many people in Disney World are in their own little worlds with little awareness of their surroundings. I work really hard on that with my kids (and myself sometimes!) to be aware of everyone around us. I have to say, at least the dad acknowledged the situation by paying for your meals. It's a start...
I hope you got to enjoy the rest of your evening at MVMCP! I just love the parade! We went to Disneyland this year in November and their Christmas parade just wasn't as good as WDW's

You are a trooper for hanging in there and having your DH pick food for you at the Cape May buffet, lol. I would be driving my poor DH crazy, like...what else is there? Can I try *everything*? Haha. Glad to hear you would go back! We are doing the character breakfast here next week. We did it 2 years ago with my DDs and loved it!

Electric Umbrella doesn't get much love, but it IS always crowded! Of all the places to eat in Epcot, my DD loves it!

Yachtsman Steakhouse~ one place I'd definitely like to go back to, to give it another try. It was just ok for us, but so many people love it. Thought maybe it was just an off kind of night for us. After your review I'm starting to think maybe it is just meh. Good, but maybe not worth the prices. I'd love to know how you like Shula's in the future~

It's great to see a review of the character breakfast at Garden Grove (Swan). You don't see them too often. Was it really busy/loud?

Sorry your meal wasn't stellar at Hollywood Brown Derby. Again, for the price everyone should expect excellent. Definitely try Mamma Melrose! Our service there has never been great, but the food is pretty good.

Have you done Be Our Guest lunch? Sorry your food was so salty at dinner! I hope you got to rub elbows with the Beast at least
