Bayou, believe me, most of the historically black colleges have seriously active diversity programs.
I'm only personally familiar with a three. My dh graduated from Morgan, my mom went to Tuskegee University (famous Tuskegee airman) and Moorehouse College in Atlanta, MLK's alma mater.

Every last one of them is extremely inclusive. Now they are proud of their heritage as they should be but believe me, any one and everyone is welcome to apply.

Taken from the first page of Tuskegee University:

Tuskegee University is an independent and state-related institution of higher learning. It's programs serve a student body that is coeducational as well as racially, ethnically and religiously diverse.

Okay, I'm not done...you can attend historically black colleges and universities while being white. My best friend whom is white pledged a black fraternity at Southern University.

oh really? so was my uncles cousins best friends son.

Haha, so we're going to go this route. You're proving far too childish to have a discussion with. Southern is 3% white, and the reason they don't have more white students is because most white students won't apply to attend, especially those born and raised in the South.

::yes:: A high school friend of mine (who is white) went to FAMU - a historically black university.

Ok guys, I think we're being trolled here. Most folks know how Historically black colleges came about and most folks know everyone is welcome to apply.

So back to the original message,

American pavilion has always been kinda of a "melting" pot of entertainment. I did like the drum and fife corp and hope they bring it back but I wouldn't blink an eye if I saw a kwanza story teller out front.

Hey it could be worse, it could be a frozen kwanza story teller. LOL, I think I'm at my frozen limit.

African Americans can not just be happy with main stream colleges, so they have to have their own.

They did.

All this fuss over a made up holiday that promotes reverse segregation...
You mean integration? :rolleyes1

I bet you have plenty of "black friends"

actually I do. They aren't closed minded like most sheeple.. We can discuss these things without insult and attempt to see open views. There is a double standard, I can't help it if political correctness has closed your eyes to it. It hurts all sides. And we won't get beyond that until EVERYONE breaks down the barriers.

This kind of all goes back to this whole "war on christmas" that is a favorite topic of a certain Network news agency......as a famous comedien said last year...."If there is a war on Christmas, then Christmas is kicking everyone's a**"

I had a friend who always reminded me that many folks who rail against "political correctness" are simply upset they cant keep saying dumb things

Oh, people can (and, clearly, do) continue to say dumb things. But, they can expect to be called on it.

Dear lord. I can't even anymore.

Can't.

Even.

You guys have made my eyes see things that can't be unseen.

oK we'll there you have it from both Black and white dissers. To sum it up:

Historically black colleges were not founded because we "did not want to be mainstream"

Many have closed down, but many are open simply because they are great institutions of higher learning.

All welcome all races, creeds, colors, religions, sexual orientation. Pretty much you meet the academic standards you can go.

they are subject to the same economic conditions as any other college, meaning those that can not financially stay afloat will close.

Definitely did not mean to insult you.

Can't help you with the pageants, lol my mom thought all beauty pageants were dumb. we weren't allowed to watch any of them. black, white or pink with purple polka dots.

lol and my point is continuously being proved, instead of politely discussing and debating as a few have, eliza61 thank you for showing decorum and debating civilly for the most part, most tend to lash out and insult. Maybe my reference to the colleges was off base, but that one seems to merit the only argument here. Possibly is the only one with feasible cannon?

But I digress, my point was it's way to easy to attack the question, than to accept the question. I bet no one actually took the time to even consider before they jumped onto the "that's racist! I must attack" bus.

As I repeatedly stated there is a double standard, we can't, we won't move ahead until we address it as a whole.. It's not about attacking a race, it's about merging. We can't merge until we say "hey, it's time to put away the things that seperate us and celebrate the things that bring us together."
