No desire for anything but WDW

DSs and I have been to Disney World 8 times in the past 18 years and I've yet to leave Disney property, with the exception of a trip to Sea World in 1990. I have no desire whatsoever to go anywhere else. I know there's plenty to do in the Orlando Area but I'd rather sit on my balcony at the Boardwalk than deal with other crowds. Am I missing out on anything fabulous? My boys are 19 and 15 and seem to just as content to stay at Disney as I am. What's your opinion?

we travel a few times a year to different places but wdw is our big family trip and always will be, the only other place i would like to go is maui, but then i know i still will squeeze in a quick trip home sweet home

When in Orlando, WDW is our main draw. But my 17 year old ds is feeling like he's outgrowing it a bit. He likes thrill rides/attractions and primarily concentrates on them while in the WDW parks. He'll ride Space Mtn or Rock N Roller coaster 20 times while the rest of us (we have 2 dd's too) go around and see everything else. For this reason, we visited Universal and IOA a couple times. He really likes IOA. Also, last year we did Discovery Cove and the kids agreed it was the highlight of our week. It was such a relaxing, uncrowded day. Sea World is also a stop for us. My 13 yr old dd wants to be a marine biologist one day.
We also make occassional side trips to the FL beaches---mainly Vero, since my uncle lives 5 min from there & then we can visit with family also.
Stc1223, I think if your boys are content with Disney alone, then that's fine. Vacations are whatever makes you all happy and/or you find fun to do. We do find ourselves hanging around and relaxing at our resort more than we did, say 3 years ago also. We don't do the commando-style vacations as much anymore (a few ps's here and there) and this is because we're content with just taking things day-by-day for the most part.

So far, WDW is all I want to do EXCEPT (and this is a BIG except), the Disney Cruise!!!!!!

We just love the cruise! I have to say it would be a tight race, but I think DCL would beat out WDW if we could only choose 1 of them.

But other than that, I am happy being at WDW!
Maybe one day we will make it to Sea World. I would Like to take the girls to Discovery Cove for their 13th birthday, but they want to go on the cruise......Oh what a difficult decision! .

I agree. We have only left Disney property a few times since we started staying on-site.

- Once to go to Busch Gardens.
- Once because my MIL broke out in hives, and went to the doctor.
- Once because my MIL needed a particular brand of something that was not available on-site.
- Twice because I neglected to make a turn, and accidentally left property.

I have absolutely no desire to venture off property.

We have done 2 side trips when going to Disney. 1 was going to Sea Worls 2 years ago which was fun but not anything like Disney but you all knew that anyhow. 2 We went to Cocoa Beach for the weekend last Dec it was nice but we still love Disneyand that is truly our only vacation destination we have 3 kids 7 3 and 2 and they all love WDW so why go anyplace else.

We spend the bulk or our time on-site and at Disney parks. However, since we usually have either our own car, or a rental, we try to pick something "new" to do for one day of our trip, and have found some other nice things to do around Orlando that were well worth one day away from Disney. While we did not care for Universal, we have enjoyed Sea World, Kennedy Space Center, Splendid China, a hot air balloon ride, Busch Gardens and Cypress Gardens. And we want to see the World of Orchids on our trip in June (if we have the time).

I'm not particularly interested in leaving WDW property either. We usually go ff once to go to hte outlets, but that's about it. We have gone to SeaWorld a couple of times, but not lately. US/IOA doesn'ty interest me...was there a while and wasn't overwhelmed.

When in Orlando we also stay the whole time on Disney property with the exception of going to the grocery store. We think about going off on a side trip every vacation but feel so content at WDW we don't want to leave! I really enjoy being in the beautiful surroundings of Disney for an entire week and not seeing the "everyday world." It truly feels like a vacation to me that way.

I am taking a Disney crusie, but you have hit the nail on the head.

Last summer I was at Old Key West and spent every morning and evening sitting on the balcony watching boats pass by on the canal. The year before I was happy watching the world pass by from my room at Beach Club Villas.

In my humble opinion, if you are happy sitting on the porch at BWV, then more power to you. It sounds great! In fact, if I see you, I'll join you.

We enjoy Vero and the beach, but we haven't ventured out to other parts of Orlando when we are at WDW. Accept of course to church and the grocery.

We plan to in the future.

We like to go to US for one of our weekends to save points and take advantage of their front of line access. Next February for Presidents' week, we will start our trip at US for Fri. and Sat. of Presidents' weekend because it is the most crowded at WDW. Then move to the BWV on Sunday for the next 7 nights. Anything we want to do in the area, we can do from the BWV. For example this year we went to an Orlando Magic game that was lots of fun. Next year we will go over to Sea World one day.

On March 1 I started with a Universal annual pass, in addition to the Disney one.

My trip in May will end with a weekend at the Portofino Bay hotel at Universal but I'll be coming back to WDW to go to PI at night.

I'm at WDW enough that I'm looking for other things to do. I have a local friend who'll take me out for shopping and food, which is fun.

I can't imagine that I'd ever want to mess with Discovery Cove (the price makes me nervous) but someday I'd like to visit Sea World for a day.

I enjoy going to Sea World occasionally. I don't go every trip. In fact I haven't gone the last three years. I am going again this year. I used to go to Cypress Gardens once and awhile too.

Mainly I am happy to stay at WDW and take it at a slower pace now.

We never usually leave WDW either. We did go to Discovery Cove in December and it was incredible! It was definately worth the price. It takes the whole day to do. Swimming with the dolphins , snorkeling in the reef, feeding the stingrays and tropical birds....It's something everyone should experience. I'm glad we did. We'll definately go again!
