No Costumes Allowed?

I just bought the Passporter guide book for Disneyland and I was reading the section about the halloween party and it says:

"Special note: while guests of all ages my wear costumes during Mickey's Halloween Party, adults are not otherwise allowed to wear costumes in Disneyland's parks, even on Halloween (so costumes grown-ups should bring a change of clothes if they want to go over to Disneyland Park after the party."

Can someone please explain this statement to me? Also, why aren't adults allowed to wear costumes?!

Adults can not wear costumes for the longest time. I think because of they might look to much like a character? I am not sure.. but I want to know as well lol

I can see this. I would think they might be concerned about someone portraying a character, and not being up to Disney behavioral standards for the character. Perhaps even being confusing to the children, doesn't the park go out of their way to avoid a child seeing more than one version of a character at the same time?

Adults cannot wear costumes since many children (or other adults) may think they are an actual cast member and want autographs, photos, etc.

The statement in question is specifically for the after hours Halloween parties at California Adventure. Adults can dress up in costumes for this event only. But if they want to go over to Disneyland after the party is over, they cannot enter wearing a costume. They must change prior to entering the other park.

I'm not trying to sound dark or creepy, but I think another reason why adults cannot wear costumes is for the overall safety of the children present.
Just like others said, children may think that anyone in a costume is ok to run up and talk to...when that might not be the case.

I think its a good precaution.

I think it is a very good policy. Kids tend to think of the characters as safe...just like if a child gets lost they know to go to a person who works there and tell them they are lost. I had a fit at a local outdoor concert in my town designed for families when they started selling the shirts the workers wore. Same thing.....kids could end up going to a completely creepy person and asking for help.

I'm confused. If prohibiting adults from wearing costumes is for children's safety, why is it okay for adults to wear costumes to the Halloween Party? What am I missing?

We went last year. And when we received our tickets thay had a list of dos and don'ts. The adults can not wear certain costumes- Disney characters, etc. So, once again the issue of kids safety is not compromised.

I wonder if they have this same rule at WDW during their Halloween party? If they do, I've never heard of it.
