The first time we were at Disney we were so excited and wanted to see and do everything.( Had the old ultimate 7 day hopper.) :drive: We toured COMMANDO STYLE but still enjoyed our trip immensely.

One problem though- we came home exhaused :crazy2: :crazy2: and swore the next time we did Disney we would "SLOW IT DOWN". For our next trip we are going to try alternating a Day at the Parks followed by a Rest Day.

Does anyone else do the DAY ON /DAY OFF SCHEDULE ? :cool1:

Not that exactly, but we have been leaving space for off-days on our trip and have really enjoyed it. There are a lot of fun things to do on off days, between DTD, Chef Mickeys, visiting other resorts, riding the various forms of transportation (we have a toddler who loves the boats, buses and monorail) the pool, etc. Plus, it saves $$!!

On our first three trips we went totally commando style. On this last trip we took it easy and actually spent 4 out of 6 days at the pool! We had a blast. We stayed in a 4 bedroom townhouse at Regal Palms. It is a little further out but they have a water slide and a lazy river and everyone, even the kids, was content to stay there. We went to Downtown Disney one night after we did the pool. We never have done that before because we were so busy with the parks. We will plan to do no more than 2-3 park days on our next trip too. One day on and one day off is very nice.

When I first glanced at this I had to laugh at little because we call going commando (going without your undewear), and I was like Oh lordy we got folks running aorund WDW without their undies..hahaha .........then I read the whole thing!!!:rotfl2:

Our first trip was non-stop and it WORE US OUT!!! Our second trip was longer and we had one rest day and it WORE US OUT...so the next trip we book will be longer and have about 3 rest days...:thumbsup2

Could you imagine? We should actually start a thread on your "commando" definition ......"Does going commando improve the quality of your Disney vacation?" lol

We did the same thing last year and on our 3rd day we just rolled :rotfl2: over. So next year 2008 i have been put in charge of our grand gatherings so i plan on stay 10 days and doing every other day so they will not get tired.:scared:

DD and I don't do day-on-day-off. We just don't kill ourselves on any given day. We know what we want to do and have an idea of how to get that stuff done with the least amount of hassle possible. We feel pretty free to wander or change plans on a whim or whatever - we're also happy to spend time at the pool or arcade or whatever in the afternoon or evening. It really helps to know enough about the parks to already have an idea of what to do to make things easier on yourself. We do go to a park or water park every day because we enjoy it that way, but this way, we aren't exhausted. :)

This summer we're going for two weeks. We've done the 7 day commando touring before and I decided I wasn't going back and do that again! We plan to spend a few hours in the park every day and then time at the pool and maybe go back at night for a few hours, depending on how everyone feels. This time I don't want to feel like a need a vacation from my vacation.

We do as above pretty much, but we go back to the hotel every afternoon for a break. Swim or nap or just hang out. We also don't feel the need to stay and watch the fireworks every night. When we get tired, we go back to the hotel.

Same here.

We've done the forced march around the world in the past. Now, we just try to take it easy and realize that we won't see everything this time around. But I don't think I could plan on only going to the parks only every other day. I'd prefer to go every day but not from open to close.

BTW, there's got to be a term for Disney exhaustion. Any suggestions?

Our kids are 6 and 4 and we quit the commando touring after our first family trip as well. Our past two trips were in Jan '06 and Feb '07 and with the cooler temps and smaller crowds we were able to hit the parks at opening every day and stay until early or mid afternoon. We then went back to the resort and swam (if warm enough) or did something more relaxing. The kids were in bed sleeping by 8pm almost every night and easily kept up with the schedule. We kept this up EVERY day of our '06 trip and after 7 1/2 park days noone was overly tired. This year we went to the Pirate and Princess party one night and DS4 (very schedule dependant) was grumpy the next few days. The party was worth it, though!

How about dis-haustion or disney fatigue syndrome.

We are doing a kind of day on/day off schedule for our fall trip. We will be in Orlando for 8 nights/9 days, and our itinerary looks like this:

DAY 1- arrive, Epcot PM
DAY 2- AK AM, Epcot PM
DAY 3- off day- MNSSHP PM
DAY 4- MK AM, Epcot PM
DAY 5- off day- TL or BB AM, Fort Wilderness campfire PM
DAY 6- Epcot AM, MK PM
DAY 7- off day- DTD midday, Boardwalk PM
DAY 8- AK AM, MGM PM
DAY 9- departure

Our last trip (first for the kids) we did parks for two days, took a day off and then did parks for 3 more days. Our big problem? Well, on our off day we decided to go to Daytona Beach. Somehow that ended up being a non-relaxing day. I really want to make this trip a more relaxing one but I doubt it will happen. We plan on doing no parks on arrival day, even though we are planning on a morning arrival. Then one open-eve. EMH day, a late start-close day, an open-close day, an open-eve. EMH day, a Kennedy Space Center/DTD day, a catch up and a half park day before leaving. You can be honest, it doesn't look good for a nice relaxing vacation huh? I just can't come up with a huge list of attractions that we can all agree to skip. Plus DSD won't sleep in no matter how exhausted she is.

We are doing something similiar this next trip.

Yes! We do the same. We found out last Sept. (the hard way of course! :headache: ) that "park commando" doesn't work for our family with the little ones (1 & almost 3 last Sept.). Our plan for this Sept. is:
9/7-Travel day, dinner at our resort (Kona)
9/8-off day, dinner at Boardwalk
9/9-AK, dinner at Ohana's
9/10-off day, maybe DTD?, Concourse steakhouse
9/11-MK
9/12-off day, Boma
9/13-Epcot
9/14-off day, Kona
9/15-MK
9/16-fly home :sad1:

As you can see, not only are we building in plenty of "down time", but I also keep my dining close to 'home', and we do not park hop. I know, different strokes for different folks, but I just don't know how some people do it with the little ones...park hopping, parks every day, out late every night and up early every day, go, go, go, go, go!!! My kids would be ballistic. The slower, more relaxed pace works for us. We get to relax, enjoy eachother's company, while still enjoying the fun of the parks & our resort! Works for us. :thumbsup2

We will do the parks in the beginning of our trip and let the kids determine how much or little we do. We are night owls so we generally have some later risers. Then we are leaving the last three days of our trip with nothing scheduled. Maybe DTD, maybe the beach, resort activities, swimming, etc....not quite sure but we know that it's open and we don't have to fill the time if we don't want to. The last two years we have driven ourselves to exhaustion and we "loved" it but we definitely need a vacation with a little R & R.
