No Chanting From The 15s/AKA "The Sounds Of Silence"

For anyone interested,in the biggest SHOCKER since The Eagles got back together,it does indeed appear Disney has finally, after years of Guest complaints, banned Chanting by The 15s inside the Parks.

We have heard ZERO Chanting inside the Parks this July(other than at F! and I don't count that because everybody in there is doing the Wave,etc.).

And we have only heard Chanting 3 times outside of the Parks-a group in the Pool at All-Star Movies/a new group arriving at All-Star Sports and a large group "announcing"lol their arrival at Blizzard Beach.

Below is a Post I made on the Resorts board that I think "may" explain what is happening:

After MANY years of constant complaints(link below is illustrative),Disney has said NO MAS.

https://disboards.com/threads/disne...and-yell-their-way-through-the-parks.3430942/

We talked to a Super Greeter today and Chanting is indeed no longer tolerated ANYWHERE in the Parks.

Last July, the Super Greeters were saying that Chanting was not allowed in "enclosed spaces" in the Parks, but was still allowed in "open areas" in the Parks which was a big move away from the usual "Chanting anytime, anywhere".

And now a total ban.

It really is remarkable-for many.many years Disney's response to Guests' complaints was something like:

"The South American Tour Groups are our Guests, they have paid their money to be here like everyone else and we want them to enjoy their WDW experience like everyone else."

Which translated meant:

"The 15s bring BIG money to WDW,Chanting is a huge part of their Culture and they love to do it in the Parks,so other Guests just need to "adapt" to it."

So what has caused The Mouse to do this after all these years?

This is complete speculation on my part, but I thought I would throw it out there.

We have noticed a gradual drop in attendance in July for several years now culminating in the least-crowded July we have ever experienced this year.

Maybe this drop is indeed due to regular July Guests who have finally said no to coming in July because of the Chanting, etc. and maybe many more potential July Guests have been "scared off" from July because of all the negative social media reports and word-of-mouth reports from Guest who have been in July saying "STAY AWAY IN JULY"!

Maybe it has reached the "tipping point" for Disney where Disney feels the attendance loss is so severe that they are now willing to possibly lose some of The 15s' business by this ban on Chanting.

Could that happen?

I think it is possible-the Chanting/Chant Singing/Chant Dancing has always been a HUGE part of The 15s WDW "experience".

I could see The 15s going back to South America and telling everybody that Disney has taken part of their "culture" from them and the trip just isn't the same anymore.

I will say this-Disney better enforce a ban on Cheering in the Parks when Cheer Season starts with the same vigor they are stopping the Chanting of the 15s or criticism that Disney has a "double standard" will surely come from "The 15s Community".

We were there late June and well into July and were amazed at how well behaved the tour groups were. They didn’t bother me in the slightest. If they act like what I observed this year in future years I wouldn’t hesitate to be in the parks at the same time. We stayed at Pop and they didn’t even bother me there (even when we were in the food court at the same time and on the bus with them). This is more than I can say for the Dance the World families. (Or whatever the dance thing was called)

We just got back and only heard one group chanting. A cast member came out of the pirates adventure treasure hunt building and yelled for them to stop. They stopped. It was very nice not to have the chanting going on all the time. The groups were well behaved but we have learned to just push through them when they are standing 70 across blocking the entire walkway through fronteirland. I have a stroller and I am not afraid to use it.

I’m just back too and absolutely no issues with tour groups. No chanting and no cutting. We were at Pop where there were plenty. No food court issues and they rarely used the Disney buses (except in small groups).

Hopefully it sticks. Didn’t they ban chanting back in 2015? I hope they don’t stop enforcing it, it’s a real shame to pay all that money to go to WDW and have your experience ruined. At least they can’t gobble up all the FPs anymore like they used to do with the paper ones.

Was there from July 12-17. Plenty of tour groups, plenty of chanting. It wasn’t unbearable or anything, just mildly annoying. Most of the chants were done en route to and from, and I wager it helps keep the flock together by requiring them to participate or listen for the noise if they get lost? Though in line for Spaceship Earth we heard a few rounds of chanting as well whilst they were in the outdoor queue. All that being said, I did not hear prior tour group chanting because we have only come in the fall otherwise....

Heard chanting twice today from 15s groups...in PotC queue and in Space Mountain loading area.

Did not observe CMs trying to stop it either time. The Space Mountain CM who was loading the rows struggled to hear the answers to “How many are in your party?” while the group is as chanting.

I heard chanting for the first time on my trip last October - I don’t go during the summer so I may have just missed it before then. Honestly it didn’t bother me at all. I thought it was kind of amusing and they looked like they were having fun, so I was surprised how many people object to it. :confused3

I guess, to me, the Disney parks have never seemed very quiet so some chanting really doesn’t make much difference. That said, I’ve never heard it at the resorts I’ve stayed at and would probably feel differently if I was trying to relax and a bunch of 15 year olds were chanting lol

Maybe it's more because Disney doesn't NEED the group's as much as they used to...the parks are crowded all the time now, even if summers aren't quite as high as they used to be. Plus, the groups are probably pretty fixed on the spending...yes they bring in money, but what is a few hundred to a thousand people with current attendance numbers. Disney would probably rather have people with more disposable income, and is reigning in the groups to keep the higher spenders happy.

Help me out here ... I have never experienced the chanting that is being spoken of but get the picture, generally. What is meant by "The 15s"? I can gather that it is used to designate South Americans ... not sure where the "15" comes from. Pardon my ignorance but just curious.

They are still getting as many FPS as they were; you just aren’t noticing it lol.

Having a crowd get FPs or having one person get a crowd’s FPs was always the same thing. Just like it is now.

Quinceañera girls.

Which means they are or have turned 15, which is a BIG deal in some cultures, and they are celebrating it.

The traditional age that wealthy families from SA give their kid a poorly supervised trip to WDW.

I too wonder why people find this objectionable... Who cares if young people in the parks are chanting? Obviously some people do. I suppose if stuck in a long queue with a group chanting incessantly for an hour or more one might become a bit crazed but I have never encountered this.

Because it is loud and obnoxious and has nothing to do with Disney?

Yep, definitely speculation on your part and really something better suited for the rumors board.

Having fun and enjoying oneself in a group has nothing to do with Disney? I guess we can agree to disagree. Just does not bother me.
Well, you just said above that you had never experienced this happening. So, really you can't agree to disagree with anyone about it not bothering you. I have only encountered tour groups a few times and it is over the top rudeness that can happen from these groups that can keep others from enjoying themselves in their groups.
