Maybe.....but they put in something special...I think it must be crack....cause it's really, really addicting!!
(Sorry, I am from the South and we have a lot of sweet tea humor on these threads:lovestruc)

Oh my gosh, you made me spit out my water!! :rotfl2:

Y'know... I think McDonald's DOES use crack! They put it on their french fries, too, and a friend of mine SWEARS there's something different in their diet coke. Wouldn't it be something if we found this to be true in the future??? :scared1:

OK... back to reading the "No Buy June" thread... I need to get on board. I'm wondering how much is "normal" for a food budget? I love, love, LOVE to cook and I think I overspend by a ton. I would love to know what is an acceptable amount of money for a family of 3. I'll probably have a stroke when I read the amount!

Thanks!

P.S. I have $400 taken out of my paycheck each month to go into a special savings for our trip in February. I will need to add more to that. Should have started saving sooner, but... c'est la vie! It's a surprise trip for my husband and son, so I can't very well do a garage sale or other "money-maker" without them wondering where the money was going. My husband is great with money, but not me... if it's in my hands, it's gone. It's kinda like water. Wish I could develop a better habit. I know I can (10 days to create a new habit, right?) but I just have to have a plan and stick with it! If Disney can't motivate me, nothing can!

Thanks for listening...

Saw Toy Story 3 Today. We just loved it. There was one part that I thought was too scary for really little kids, but that is my only complaint. Also used a gc at Outback, so only had to pay $13 for a fabulous dinner.

o2bnoz, I'm not sure if there is a normal for food spending- I think you need to come up with your normal. Take a look at what you have spent on groceries, average, for the last 3 months or so, and then make it a goal this month to maybe shave $100 off that.

Just like going on a diet to lose weight, if you try to do much the first month on a savings plan, it might be more than you can handle, and you will give up or drop off. I have only been doing the no spend for 2 months, and I have already seen a fair number of people start the month and not finish. Maybe they set too difficult of a goal and then got discouraged when they couldn't do it?

I would set a reasonable and attainable goal the first month, see if you can do better the 2nd month, and keep going like that, but that is just my opinion .

Good luck!

Man, it has been a long month already. The spa, dog meds, and cocktail dress have really sky-rocketed our expenses. I am hoping for 8-10 $0 days this month, aiming for 13 next month.

I made my goal: no more than $100 in unnecessary spending for the month

week 1: $5
week 2: $16 (funnel cake, cotton candy, baseball game)
week 3: $10 (pics of DD's wedding for my parents, fast food)
week 4: $17 - DH was in the hospital. I bought myself flowers and food.

My allowance is $20 per week and I stayed inside that limit.

All these still feel like good spends.

Making plans for July.

Despite my best intentions, I failed miserable with my no-buy challenge.
I love the idea, and set a goal of 15 no-buy days. Why not? You guys make it look easy. But it's not, at least for me.
I had ZERO no-buy days. Every day, an expense would pop up. Some little, some not so little.
But this experience has led me to the conclusion that I can do this, I just need to tweak it to fit my life. Next month, I will be back!
I find this thread very inspiring. Because of this thread, I am going to set up monthly budgets for groceries and dining out/entertainment and my DH and I each have our own amount for discretionary spending (I say allowance, he says stipend). So for that, I thank you!

Made my goal today! Trying to decide if and how I should do no spend in July. July is much different than June for me, with 2 visits from my kids, 3 days at Disney/Universal and a couple of expenses that are unusual. I think I will do no spend, but with a conservative (low) number for no spend days. I really like tracking my grocery spending and how much I have saved couponing, and I'm afraid I won't do it if I don't participate in the no spend thread. Plus, you guys are inspiring. :-)
