No Buy June - Everybody welcome, jump on the bandwagon!

MickeyMom, I don't think you should beat yourself up too much. For me, deciding to do the no spend challenge forced me to look at the previous month to see what my budget should be. My AHA! moment was when I realized that I spent $500 on food and toiletries in April for only 2 people. I decided to do the no spend and seriously look into couponing . In May I saved $168, and I have already saved $174 this month.

The reason I bring this up is that once you have identified where you can save money, you can take that money saved and put it into your fun money budget.

I definitely don't think you should sacrifice fun events with your kids. That is your memory bank, and now that my kids are older I often visit the memory bank. :-)

I would just add to the fun budget, and find ways to cut down a different category.

I did not go out to Subway yesterday after vacation bible school even though so many moms tried to talk me into it. We are packing our lunch and going to a friends house on Friday for a swimming party so I told my kids today we come home to eat lunch. YAY!

Today I do have to go the the store but I intend to do a really detailed menu before I leave and just buy what I must.
Remaining:
Groceries $179.00/$900.00
My allowance: $65.00/$120
Fun Money: $00.00/$100

I just realized it will be impossible for me to make my goal this month, and I am a little bummed about that but at the same time there were days I could have but the kids had school functions or other things that I was not willing to cut out in exchange for them missing. Guess that comes with he end of the school year and while I realized it, it is more obvious when you are recording day by day.
On top of tat we just moved up our vacation so we will be going to grandma's 3 days early, Saturday, and with going out for ice cream to celebrate DD8's last softball game tonight and dinner out with my DD11's Girl Scout troop to celebrating going to middle school tomorrow and a graduation on Friday I am near hopeless, so at this point I will have to be happy with 10, well, 9 for now but working for 10.
But like my DH reminds me, even Suze Orman says people first, then money, then things. Things was not my problem this month. It was having fun with the people I love so I am not going to be too hard on myself. :thumbsup2

The end of the school year is always a killer for me. We have been out of school for a couple of weeks now but that last month was brutal. I know there will be all sorts of little expenses so I plan ahead for it and put some money aside. Don't worry about it, enjoy it. I always say to DH in a few years they won't want to go out for ice cream with us, enjoy it while we can. :goodvibes

Not going anywhere the rest of the day, so I can post early. Great Walgreens run- got 2 boxes of Tylenol Cold, 3 2 liters of Diet Dr. Pepper, 4 12 packs of Diet Pepsi and a pack of smokes for $22- saved $19.49 with coupons/sales and got $4 in register rewards for next trip. If you count the $4 in register rewards, I actually saved more than I spent- a first for me with couponing! :-)

$4.50 Kids bought lunch (We got in too late from vacation to grocery shop)
$1.08 Redbox
$20.00 Gas
$114.94 Groceries
$5 DD11's end of year class trip
June 2-$0
June 3-$0 Took the kids to 2 Walgreen's for Silly Bandz but that is all we got and they used their own money.
June 4- Was a $0 day till hubby came home with "free" baseball game tickets. I debated, but it was a beautiful night and free glove night for kids and the girls had friends going so we went. There went the $0 day. We spent just under $30on dinner and parking. I am quoting Suze Orman right now, "People first, then money, then things." It was a nice family evening out so worth losing the day.
June 5- Taco Bell-$14.59 Michael’s (Scout stuff, Father’s Day gifts and frames) $45.76, $15.63 Dairy Queen with GS troop, $17 (added DD8 to the sleepover, her troop hates sleepover so I will probably never get here there otherwise so her sister invited her) $4 sleepover patches, $10 ornament (I like to collect these when we go places)
June 6- $7.81 McD’s breakfast on the way home, Sam’s (groceries, gifts, clothes, shampoo, 5 bottles of sunscreen, etc) $191.99 (I’ll say the $91.99 was groceries, roughly,) Snack at Sam’s $3.43 Wegman’s groceries $154.68 (that is what I get for bringing DH) Amazon order (right around) $30, 2 CDs for DH for Father’s Day and some Disney Silly Bandz
June 7-$0 Technically I won $7 in Silly Bandz off eBay, but the kids are paying for them so my OOP was $0
June 8-$0 Spent the day cooking and filling my naked freezer. I froze about 15 dinners so far and more are in the crock pot overnight and will be frozen in the morning. I usually do this every 6-8 weeks but it all seemed to go really fast this time since we have had so many busy nights.
June 9-$0
June 10-$0
June 11- Streak Over. $3 bread and milk, $8 gummy spiders for DD11's Bronze Award presentation tomorrow, $34.98 gas, $5 (really $18 but we had $13 left on a gift card) lunch date with hubby <3 ,Walmart (pillows) $34 ish, have to find the receipt, $4 Silly Bandz (for a b-day gift, my kids have enough!) And finally $19 pizza night for the family.ETA- $72 Bon Jovi Tickets!!!!
June 12- Day out with the family (using all coupons!) $30.18 for lunch at Friendly's, a game of bowing and Slushies on the way home.
June 13- $21 eating out when off visiting friends' new baby
June 14- Clothes shopping for DD15 $69.21 & $111.67 (this also included a new softball bat for DD8) and a CREDIT of <$24.41> (clothes for me.)
Bought DD lunch after finals (I did not eat) $6.47
Groceries $90.57
After all that I was too tired to cook so I did what I rarely do, we got pizza on a weeknight $9.45
June 15- Chaperoned DD11's class trip, $15 (yes, I had to pay my own way.)
Lunch and Ice Cream on the trip $12
Envelopes $1.08
Stamps $7.92
Gave DD money to go to lunch with her friends after exams $4
Took kids out to Family Night at a local restaurant for dinner. We ate, played and had ice cream for a total of $7 with coupons.
June 16-$0
June 17- $29.25 Kids School Night at the Ball Park. Cost for eveything (dinner, parking, etc)
Tring to catch up from memory after a busy weekend...
June 18- $2.25 DD11 bought lunch, Pizza for kids $10, Date with hubby about $20, Father's Day gifts Walmart $50ish, Redbox $3, Cereal for the last free movie tickets about $15
June 19- Day out with my girls Breakfast $4, Michael's about $20, b-day gift and a book at Ollie's about $7, lunch $9, DD8's Little Leage night at the ballpark about $28, groceries about $50 Went to Chuck E Cheese too but used free token coupons and spent no money there.
June 20- Father's Day- Toy Story 3 in 3D for 5 and a bucket of popcorn $1.50  Thanks to all the cereal! And $8 drinks to take in with us from the gas station, Bowling $2 thanks to coupons, late lunch at Outback $53 but I did have a coupon so that wasn't too bad for a family of 5, ice cream out for dinner $10.
I will record all these below after I confirm the numbers with my bank account, I just felt I needed to catch up since this was the longest I have gone without recording.
June 21- $0 Finally back on track, though short lived, tomorrow can't be.
June 22- $50.27 Walmart, teachers and coaches gifts for last day of school and softball tomorrow plus 2 new beach towels that we actually do need. $8 took the kids out to dinner, used a pile of coupons so we ate the kids (21 didn't go) shared an ice cream, and we enjoyed all the free activities of Family Night (crafts, games, prizes, face painting, balloons etc.)
June 23- DD bought lunch for last day of school $2.25, Flowers for DD11's Moving Up Ceremony $4, Giftbags for teacher's gifts $3, Redbox $2, Snack for family to hold us till dinner when running late for softball, $7. I could have worked harder for a $0 today but that last day of school got to me.

Thanks guys, I'm not really too upset by it. It's just one of those things. The truth is I am so frugal about things anyway that my DH says this isn't necessary, but for me it has been fun and has gotten me to be in stores less and to not grab a drink when out of something, so it is a good thing. I just am kind of competitive, mostly with myself.
But, this is a busy time for us, and many families, and we are having fun and paying cash so there isn't anything to geet upset over.

Tonight we are going to dinner with a group of friends, all our DD11's Girl Scout troop's families to celebrate the girls moving up and on to middle school. It won't be cheap, but it will be fun. We are going to a Japanese hibatchi place that we love! And other then that I need some milk and bread, but it should be a reasonable day otehrwise. It is the first day of summer break so we are heading to the splash park with a picnic lunch. :yay:
