'No Buy' Disney

No interest in a "NoBuy" Disney trip. We are on vacation and we spend what we want when we want. If DH wants a slushie thing a Goody's Candy store then he gets it.

If I see a cute outfit for the kids, they get it.

We work and watch our spending the rest of the year so we can vacation and not count pennies. We book a value if money is tighter so we can spend on the rest of the trip.

Tee hee.. we book a value to be able to go! It would be nice to not have to watch.. but I think the kids understand that if we want to go every year to 18 months we gotta do budget until they are older and I can work more.

This will be my kids' first "real" trip - last time we went, my D was 15 months old...and we picked up my daughter while we there So....we are budgeting NOW to let them have a little more on vacation. When one of them asks for McDonalds, the other one pipes in with a reminder...."No, we can't - we're going to Disney!". Our trip isn't until January.

That said, a lot of our spending money will be from gifts - they both have birthdays coming up, and Christmas - we have only asked for Disney Dollars. I am very curious about the "make your own light saber" someone mentioned...anyone know where that is, and how much?

We are on a budget when we are on vacation but that budget includes treats. A no buy trip is to rigid and to controlling. No buy is not the same as budget.

We don't go hog wild on souveneirs etc. and to be honest the kids ask for very little. So because they don't ask for much we usually buy them what they want.
We also don't want to have to watch every single penny while vacationing so we make sure we have enough money to enjoy ourselves. If we want frosty drinks by the pool (virgin drinks for the kids!) then we buy them. If we feel like getting a bag of candy from Goofy's then we do. I don't mind being realistic in that we cannot spend millions but I am not going to vacation when I have to stress over buying an ice cream bar. To me that is not vacation. YMMV.

I don't do many souvies... maybe a little item for myself. The kids have their own spending money. The only thing that busts the bank for me is how to budget gas getting there from here and the tips that are included in the free dining. We do a TS every night and it's free but the tip isn't so I am always over estimating what to have on hand for the tip...

But this trip is the one that shouldn't be so it's budget (w/ free dining) all the way.

we don't do a no buy trip but the kids can't buy anything till the end of our trip, they get a shopping day near the end. both kids get $60 each on the shopping day to buy whatever they want. So all week the kids look for things, price them & then they buy whatever fits into their $60. on the shopping day, If we didn't do that they would ask for something everyday we are there this way they get to see everything and pick the best buys at the end.

May not work for everyone but it works for us...
