No Acuvue rebate on internet contact purchases now?!

Acuvue rebates are always the biggest pain for us...they always seem to find some reason to lose or refuse the rebate. Well, I just went to attempt to submit one and found this in the fine print:

Rebate valid only on in-office and in-store purchases made by 3/31/14. Not valid for internet purchases. Recent eye exam required. See rebate terms and conditions.

Wow, really?! How many people will buy contacts thinking that they are getting the rebate, only to find that they aren't getting it because they made the purchase online?! Aggrivating to say the least. I guess the best bet is to find a store that will price-match an online price, buy it in-store at the price-matched price and then submit for the rebate. Of course, I don't know if I want to be hassled to do that...I'm sure that that is what they are counting on

The terms and conditions are right on the rebate form. The online places don't link to it because they know that purchases through them aren't eligible. The contact lens manufacturers are already giving those online places a steep volume discount. You basically got your savings on the "front end" when you bought from them.

You also need to have seen an eye doctor for an exam within the previous 90 days in order to qualify for the rebate from Acuvue. Older prescriptions don't qualify. You need to include your receipt for the exam.

Up until this most recent contact purchase I bought online and also was able to submit for the Acuvue rebate. I always kept copies of everything so I could get my rebate when they conveniently "lost" my submission pretty much every time. It was a pain, but I got the rebate. I am going to ask my Dr. about using a different brand next time...one that still gives the rebate to online purchases. Honestly, the price I pay isn't too different from just going to a B+M Walmart. I just can't be bothered to do so, so I order online. I guess that losing the rebate is the price of convenience now.

Off topic but has anyone else heard that Acuvue is no longer being made? I've wore them for several years and had to change to a new brand because my eye dr said that Acuvue wasn't going to be made anymore

Certain Acuvue lenses have been discontinued. However, there are many types of Acuvue lenses that continue to be on the market. It's possible that your lens was one of the d/c'd lenses.

Johnson & Johnson makes many different types of lenses that are all sold under the umbrella name "Acuvue". There are some types that have been discontinued and new types that were recently introduced. It's sort of like Kellogg's having several types of Special K cereals and discontinuing the production of one flavor of Special K.
