NJ parents of new drivers

I really don't need wackos on the road, knowing that my 17 year old is alone in car :scared1:.

I honestly don't think the stickers are going to stop kids from driving recklessly or stop them from having accidents.

Big brother needs to back off already!! :rolleyes1

Exactly how I feel!

ok thanks, I did know she was OK to drive if me or dh was in The car, but I was so looking forward to letting her drive her sisters on a night all 3 of them have 4-H. I was hoping to get a night off from having to leave my house!! lol!

So a year from now she can go and get a new license?? Will she have to pay? This one is good until 2014. that makes no sense.

Yes...there is an additional fee. I can't remember what the breakdown is, but basically you paid part of the license fee upon passing the road test and obtaining the provisional, and the rest of the fee to get the provisional tag off after a year. It ends up totaling $24, I believe, which is the full fee for a regular license.

She WILL need to produce the 6 points of ID again in a year to get her full license.

Ok now I am more confused...this is what I read..doesn't it mean that NJ drivers have to be age 21 before they can drive more then one person??

No...that means that anyone still holding a Provisional License under the age of 21 can only have one person in the car.

If you waited to obtain your driver's license until you turned 21, then the provisions of the GDL do not apply to you and as soon as you get your license you can carry whoever you want in your car.

OK this makes sense because her license fee was only $6 She now has a PROBATIONARY LICENSE so I am guessing next year she will go back for the PROVISIONAL??

No...probationary/provisional...both the same thing. I think when my daughter had it they called it provisional.

When she returns to DMV next year she'll get a regular license after paying the additional fee and showing her 6pts. The only difference is that her license will still be "portrait" direction vs. "landscape" to indicate that she is still under 21, but the probationary driver restrictions will be gone.
