Howdy fine folks! I just landed myself a Nintendo Wii system for my kids for Christmas (I know - it's early, but I don't want to run around with my Visa outstretched in Dec.:) ). They are 11 (DS) and 9 (DD). My silly question is...now what else do I need? Games obviously..but which are the really cool :cool2: ones? I've heard of the numchuck thingys...and I guess another controller wouldn't hurt either. Are there other accessories that would be needed for the "full Christmas morning experience"? As you can see I'm Wii impaired. I'm happy I found one pretty easily and I didn't worry about getting mugged on the way to my car.;) Any input would be much appreciated...and thank you!:goodvibes

You'll want a second controller, but there is a game you can for an extra $10 that comes with a controller. Can't remember what it is., but someone here will know.

The Mario games are popular with the kids, although I find them boring. I like Boom Blox though.

Wii Play is the game with the extra controller. You need at least two controllers and numchucks. My family likes the Mario Party game. My DD (9) likes it a lot because she doesn't get into the fast paced butt kicking games. The Lego games have been a big hit with DS(11) and DH. We have Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones. We also have Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero Aerosmith. They are on the pricey side for a game. Guitar Hero was $90 last year with the guitar. I'm sure this Christmas they will probably be cheaper. If you are thinking about getting either of the Guitar Hero games I would go to Amazon and see the list of songs to make sure you are ok with what they play. Some people may not like some of the songs or song titles. There is one on the Aerosmith game that may be a no go for some parents.

I haven't looked at the list of Aerosmith songs but let me guess.."Lord of the Thighs"?:lmao:

Nope it is S*x Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots. There are of course several Areosmith songs that can raise some eyebrows. I figure if you are buying a game based on Areosmith you should already know that!

Where shall i start. :scared1: Try to find out what games they are most likely to play. then search out those games and on the package it will show you what controllers you will need for that particular game.

FYI in 1 year i have managed to purchase

Wii w/extra controller with Wii play, second nunchuck then Hanna Montana cause they had to have it came with mic. Then DDr with dance mat and of course extra mat. Then got the crossbow with game and then Wii steering wheels for mario cart.
Then the girls :love2: got on to guitar hero with extra guitar then i went out and bought rockband.
Ok i guess i'm a pushover... :worship: now there asking for rockband II....not going to happen at least till after christmas as we are in Disney :santa: Dec 21-31st. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1::grouphug:

My kids love their wii--they got it last Christmas and we have to still limit play, so it is a great gift. They will love it. Favorite games at our house: Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, wii sports (which probably comes with the game). I love wii fit.

DD12 just got Guitar Hero for her birthday (not the Aerosmith) and there are a few songs on it that I don't totally approve of, but she kind of picks her favorites and so she doesn't play the ones I don't like yet. HOWEVER, the scantily clad girls are more of a problem to me! They are on stage with NO clothes (hardly). She says she can earn $$ to buy them clothes, but they are still sleazy. So, I asked her to be one of the guys or there is a teeny bopper dressed one, which of course, she doesn't like.

For Christmas, they are asking for Lego Indiana Jones, a roller coaster game (?) and High School Musical.

I second the recommendation to choose the games and then buy the accessories that you need for those games. It shows a picture on the back of the game with the accessories (like nunchucks or the steering wheel) that are needed for the best game experience. We bought extra controllers and nuchucks and may not have needed so many of some of the things that we bought.
The remotes drain batteries quickly, in our experience, so have extra batteries on hand or invest in the rechargeables.
Make sure you play the games with them too, even if you're not usually a video game person! We have fun with the whole family, especially bowling. We have had our Wii for a couple of years now, and everyone who's played at our house has had a lot of fun.

I love "Mario Party 8"....still.;) One that I enjoy as well is "Carnival Games". Don't have that yet.

My sister and I both want "The Price is Right". Haven't played it but I would love to play her....:rotfl: or as we say in my family....crush her.;)

I have not played "Lego Star Wars" but that looks like fun.
Of course I played "Zelda:Twilight Princess". That is a role playing game or RPG.

Here is a site I use to look at games, cheats, reviews...

My kids love the Lego themed games! They have some for their DS's and a game for PS2. Mario seems to be popular with all the game sets. Thank goodness the accessories are easier to find in most places. I guess I should look into the Wii Fit options cause I could use the system, too!:lmao:

Any of the Lego games are good! Also Mario Kart Wii is a good racing game. Animal Crossing:City Folk comes out in November and should also be really good. The Rayman Raving Rabbids games are also fun.

As previous posters mentioned, Wii Play comes packaged with another Wii remote. Rechargeable batteries or a charging station are also a good idea.

There's a great Wii thread on the budget board that has game reviews and a list of things you might need if you have a Wii, you might want to check it out.

DS- 10 fav games
Mario Galaxy, Smash brother brawl, Mario carts

DD-8 fav games
Samsh bros, Carnival games, Ravin rabbids

family
Boom Bloks, Warioware, Wii fit

We have a few others that don't get played

What do you need to get? Lots of AA batteries!! :teeth:

Of course when we bought ours the guy at Toys R Us is like don't forget the batteries and hands me a pack of AAA. Then I get home and realize that we needed AA.

We have a ton of games for ours, the current favorite is Raving Rabbids 2, it was on sale recently at Target. It's a bunch of mini-games and the kids love the burp to destroy Paris game and the shooting the bunnies with the plungers.

Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl, Sonic and Hedgehog to the Olympics, Sonic Tennis, umm....Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, for yourself.
