Nintendo coming to Universal theme parks

My DS is going to freak out with this news. Thanks for sharing.

:) Yep, just keeps getting better.

Yep, my kids will enjoy and I will too. Can't wait to see what characters they will bring to life.

This has been speculated as a good replacement for kidzone for a while. I wonder what the timeline is for Orlando to be getting anything and where it will go.

I'm 31 and I'm excited for this. Between Harry Potter and Nintendo, I'm suprised Disney hasn't been pushing Star Wars more to compete. Maybe they are waiting for the new movie to come out first?

They could really have some great attractions and things to bring to the parks.... much more than some silly foam Mario outfit. I sure hope it is more than that. Universal could really use a Disney Quest type of entertainment area. Nintendo would fit right in with that.

I'm so excited about this! I wish it was here now! Though Universal does move faster than Disney, so maybe it'll be the Frozen ride, haha

The announcement says it will include "major attractions", but no more details than that

I hope they will focus more on a Disney-type attraction that is less intense so the whole family can enjoy it. Something not too scary (like Kong), and not a coaster (for the non-coaster riders) that is still fun and cutting edge and immersive. Something that will appeal to all generations like Toy Story Mania. I know we love it, our kids love it, and when we took my Dad, he loved it too. It was just one of those fun rides with a big re-ride appeal that was easy and manageable for everyone. I'm not saying re-create that ride - but focus more on something for the whole family.

Kong sounds amazing - but I know my DD won't like it (she's not into anything creepy). Still - it should be a great addition to the park.

I'm hoping it'll be large enough to do both types. Like maybe a metroid for creepy and intense, and a mario for family stuff. But maybe it makes more sense for them to stick with one target audience...

It is unlikely that they'd put a Toy Story Mania ride in since Men in Black is like that but much better, IMHO. It is probable that this will go into Universal, so they won't be adding another shooter ride.

The new wave of stuff seems very family friendly, so I would imagine this new section will be very family friendly too.

Isn't Islands of Adventure much more likely? Don't they try to keep the Studios movie and TV-oriented?

As for types of attractions, I'd say Mario Kart is a no-brainer.

As a middle aged gamer, I'm excited for this news. I can't wait to see what Universal brings.

That being said, I wonder if Universal will build new rides or just re-theme some old ones. I've also heard rumors that the Nintendo franchises could be the replacement for the Marvel stuff that is currently in their parks (since Disney now owns Marvel, which conflicts with Universal Marvel comic book rides, rumor is this would be the excuse for Disney and Universal to come to terms, and buyout/end Universal's existing contract with Marvel).

I'm probably going to end up booking a trip to Universal this year for my husband, because he's never been and has been wanting to do the Marvel themed rides in Orlando for a long time. You, just in case. :)

Based on this read, I think Universal should and will hold on to the Marvel area!!
If they are going to theme it more towards the younger crowd, then the kids area with Barney etc. would be a good area to replace. Or there was mention of the Lost Continent area being in need of revamping, which has some merit, so it could go in there. However, they would probably hate to lose Mythos. Depending on how much space is needed, and if there is excess space beyond what is already developed, the area where Fear Factor is located seems to be a great spot! I would like to make a request now for a candy store full of Nintendo shaped EVERYTHING!!

Yes! I got a mario shaped chocolate in my Japan crate recently and it was better because it was mario.

Actually thinking of all the merchandise possibilities is making me even more excited for this new stuff! I know that if universal could please jk Rowling, they can definitely make Nintendo happy.
