Nine Dragons/Lotus Blossom Cafe... why so bad?

Agree We eat at Nine Dragons for lunch pretty much every trip!

It's not bad. It's just the same food you can get at home, at three to four times the price. If you don't mind paying that, it'll probably be okay.

If I'm going to pay that, it's going to be for stuff I can't get at home.

At Lotos Blosson the orange chicken is probably the best food value at the park.

Oooh, i LOVE the orange chicken from Panda Express, its one of my favorite foods ever. Does anyone know if they taste similar?

We used to really like Nine Dragons before the renovations/new menu. It'll always have a special place in our hearts since that's where we had ADR's the night now-DH proposed near the International Gateway (awww!), but it just isn't as good now. Neither of us were really happy with our meals last year and it is no longer on our "must do" list. It wasn't terrible, but just OK. There are just so many other choices, why settle for OK? We might give it another try on another trip, but we'll be avoiding it for a while.

We ate there last year and we will never eat there again. The steak that my DDs had was so spicy (even though we requested no spice) that they couldn't eat it. I ordered the two noodle dish, and one of the sauces that you mix was pretty good, but the other was like soap. It was gross. What made it worse was we had a server who unfortunately did not speak much english, and we unfornately don't speak chinese, so we had a real difficult time communicating with her. It just wasn't the best dining experience, I'd rather go to Tepan Edo and eat Japanese or go to the Poly and eat at Kona. DH says the same thing, save the $$ and go someplace else. We had read the bad reviews too and thought there is no way it is that bad, so we went, we were so sorry!!!

Yes, we like it. But I can't tell if the food is more authentic than a mall food court Chinese or is worse. We eat there when we are hungry and don't make plans in advance. Or at Epcot EMH, since they are one of the few restaurants that stay open. We've sat outside there and listened to Illuminations and watched the high fireworks from our table, too.

But, I just feel it could be a lot better. Last Feb, DH had a terrible reaction to the Orange Chicken and it tasted a lot worse on the rebound!

We haven't tried Nine Dragons yet, but we did not really enjoy Lotus Blossom - while we appreciate food court Chinese food, this was not tasty food court Chinese food. Neither dh nor I liked it, and we're usually fairly easy to please, especially when it comes to Chinese since we love it and don't have much to choose from in our small town. I would like to try Nine Dragons though.

All I can say is that it has been 3 years since we've been to Disney World and DD13 only remembers 2 meals: Rainforest Cafe at AK and the orange chicken at Lotus Blossom at Epcot. She wants to go back to these 2 places on our trip this Dec.

You didn't miss it - they removed it when they updated the menu after the last refurbishment. I used to LOVE their General Tso's, and the dumplings they call General Tso's aren't the same thing. Sometimes they offer it as a special, so be sure you ask your server.

We had never eaten at 9D because of bad reviews, but my daughter wanted to try a little something from each country and share it during our last trip.

We got an order of pot stickers and I thought they were quite good. Not the best I have ever had, but I still enjoyed it.

I think we don't eat there because, as others have said, Chinese food is fairly prevalent everywhere. I would rather go try something Morrocan, or Norwegian, or even French or German because I don't get an opportunity to eat that food everyday in my home town.

We're pretty fussy about our Chinese food, so we weren't very impressed with 9D, but that was at the end of 2008 -- I think the menu was changed after that? Not sure. We just found it all very bland, and very expensive to boot. The lo mein noodles weren't actually lo mein noodles -- they were fettucini noodles with Chinese-style seasonings on them. My son was 7 at the time and horrified by his children's meal, and that was frustrating -- he didn't eat a thing, and at the time, we were on a really tight budget. We had to get him another dinner later because he was starving.

I think the real issue for us is that they just didn't have anything on the menu that's made in the style we're used to -- we're not into the meat dishes that are breaded and fried and then put into a sauce. But if you like those kinds of dishes, you'll probably be happy with it.

We did love our server and the atmosphere though.
