I hate it when it happens but it does and its always the little guy that gets hurt, just in case you have been in a cave for the last two weeks, we have a new nasty virus out there worse then code red, its called Nimda which is Admin spelled backwards.

Most people don't have a clue what a virus is, let alone the ability to build a firewall to stop them.

Kathryn and Gary as other ISP and Web folks, have spent every spare moment just to protect what taken them years to build because of these viruses, and when you talk virus your only as strong as your weakest link.

Take this example of a Nimda attack on a mainframe, an operator can spend hundred of hours building a firewall, updating virus definition tables, and deploying all the right safeguards to make sure the network server is safe.

But it all took was one salesperson who thought their computer was working to slow because of the virus scanner scanning mail in the background, they laughed and said oh poppycock this could never happen to me turned it off, and Walla they did not even have to open the infected file just its presence was enough to do them in.

You see that salesperson shared a common set of files with the rest of the office, and the server… when that person went down, everybody went down. You see that person in affect opened the back door to house, because it was too hot inside to sleep, and then went to bed. The crooks broke in and robbed the house.

For those that don't know where to go to see if they are safe, or infected, and want to learn about Internet virus protection. I offer this link.

These are good folks they will teach you a lot, and they offer a web based virus scanner that's free to use and actually pretty good.

The virus scanner is here

I hope this helps anybody that needs it. And no it was not my company that got hit it was a friend of mine in of all places a sales marketing office. My rules are simple if you turn off the virus scanner and we get hit, I'll set your car on fire. Hee hee
