Thanks! I love it already. I know, I try so hard to get nice shots with point and shoot and there's really only so much you can do. I have a lot to learn about this camera but am hoping that by Disney, I'll have a good idea on how to do a lot with it.

I know! You must be so excited! Is it your first time to NYC? You're getting in on the 9th and leaving when? I know the 9th and 10th are no good for me....shoot, I don't think the 11th is either....but def the 12th and actually I'll be in the city on the 13th because we are going to see The Addams Family on Broadway. I swear, I'm usually not this busy!

OI have planned a NYC trip for Labor day (yikes..I wanna see a Yankee Game and I live close to Arlington tx)....next yr so I just mmaayy have to hitcha up fer some advice on where to go for places to eat and such, and plays.

Yes!! I am slowly reading all about how to work this camera so hopefully by then, I will be able to get some nice fireworks shots!

Thanks! No, I actually had it made for our 4th of July trip last year by someone on Etsy. She was fantastic! took all my control-freak notes and I even sent her the shirt because I'm so weird about sizes fitting me right. She made me that and one other one.

So, like I said, yesterday was a busy but fantastic day!!

I'll start with Emma's birthday party. Those of you who followed my October 2009 TR, can you believe how big Emma is now? Three years old!!

Anyway, Emma's actual birthday was Saturday and yesterday was my dad's birthday. I'm sure I mentioned this waaay earlier in my PTR, but my sister and I got my dad the BEST birthday present! A Ride-Along at the Richard Petty Driving Experience!!! He was sooo excited when he opened it!

I found the BEST card for this gift. My dad loves watching all that race car stuff on TV and he's been talking about wanting a corvette since I was little. So this card says something like, "For your birthday, how does a shiny new sports car sound?" And then on the inside, when you open it, it revs like a sports car. So I wrote something like, "We didn't get you a sports car but we got you the closest thing to a sports car as we could afford!" I thought that was pretty clever of me!

Poor thing was so overwhelmed and exhausted!

I had to practice the self-picture taking skills with the new camera. It's definitely not as easy....I'm terrifying I'm going to drop it but this didn't come out too badly!

Then of course, it was time for cake!! Emma LOVED everyone singing Happy Birthday to her!

So we left the party around 5:30 because we had another fun destination to get to that night...NYC to meet two of my good DIS friends. Christy (PopArtGal) was coming to NYC from Canada with two of her friends. I first met Christy when I was planning my 2009 Disneymoon. There was an awesome group of people in the July 2009 planning thread and I still keep in touch with many of them. I met about 6 or 7 DISers on that trip, Christy being one of them. So when she said she was coming to NYC, we just had to go meet up with her!

She also invited Brook (brookelizabeth) to meet up with her too. PERFECT because Brook is also one of my DIS friends! We follow each others' TRs and recently became coworkers!! But we had never met so I was so excited to meet her and her family, who I feel like I already knew because I've seen so many pictures!!

Surprisingly, it was such an easy drive from Staten Island, back through Jersery, to the Lincoln Tunnel and into Manhattan. We usually take the train in which is kind of a pain because we have to switch at Newark Penn and can't just leave when we want to because, obviously, we have to wait for the train. Shockingly, I found a parking spot pretty quickly not too far from where we were meeting...Ellen's Stardust Diner!

We met outside the diner and all hugged and said our hellos then went inside to eat. It was such a fun place! VERY loud....which I sort of wish we went someplace a little quieter so we could talk more but, ah well!

Now when we first got there, it was about half-full...maybe a little more. Well by the time we left, the place was PACKED!! Packed full of......well, we'll get there later...

One of the singing waiters...they were all VERY good singers. All the wait-staff are aspiring Broadway stars!

Okay....so what was the restaurant full of?? I'll give you a hint.....what travels in packs and takes over Disney World during July and January???

If you guessed Brazilian Tour Groups....you are CORRECT!!!!

How funny is it that in all the restaurants in NYC, this was very place we were having dinner was the place this group chose to eat! I have looked at their websites before so I knew that they travel to NYC first and then go straight to WDW. So if you are going to be WDW next week, be on the lookout for them! In fact, you can look for THIS particular woman!

Can you believe we got a picture with her?! When we were saying our goodbyes, we saw her walking by with her flag so I whipped out my camera thinking I would get a sneaky pic of her but got so busted!! So she actually walked over to us and said she would pose for a picture...so instead of taking a picture of just her, I threw the camera and Tom and we all jumped in!!

We briefly told her why we wanted her picture and asked her if they were going to WDW and, in fact, they were!! So again, look for her and tell her we said hello! Hahahahaha!!!

So we said our goodbyes, and since we were already in NYC, we just had to stop at the Disney Store.

We were only there for a few minutes but it was enough for a little "fix."

Then we strolled back to our car, which happened to be right near Radio City so I tried out some new settings on my camera.

It was soooo nice walking around the city on this warm summer night. For some reason, I feel like every time I walk around the city, it's freeeeezing!! Being there in the summer was so nice! A little smelly....but nice! Haha! Then we just got in the car and left! It was so easy....I don't think I'll be taking the train as much anymore!

It was the least expensive of all the DSLR cameras! And still it was a lot of money, which is sooooo unlike me! But I've wanted one for a long time and it's an investment.

I am waaaaaaaay behind but catching up... have to say congrats on the camera! You really can't go wrong with anything Nikon makes... they also make little "cheat cards", which are laminated cardstock that has all the functions and features on it, which is great when you don't want to lug around a manual with you. You're going to love the shots you get!

Just catching up and saying. Your pictures look great. I am sure that you will be a "pro" by the time September rolls around. I recently signed up for the Wine and Dine 5K also so maybe I will see you there!
