We are planning a surprise trip in a few weeks and a very :cool1:! I have managed to get BBB appt for DD6 and a dinner ADR at CRT :cool1: I"m so jazzed and can't wait! Now, my question is I know it's going to be hot when we are there. DD is an Ariel fan, big-time. We have an Ariel costume, but it's an actual HOOP skirt, so I think that's out, too difficult to squeeze into seats on rides. I've looked at the Disney Ariel costumes online but the look to be potentially hot and scratchy:confused3. But they do have some really pretty princess nightgowns that I think could be subbed for a 'real' costume. Has anyone done that? I'm thinking ease of movement and comfort factors. Of course, I'll bring a change of clothes in case she decides she's ready to change. I was just curious if anyone else has done it.
Thanks!:goodvibes

Depends on if the nightgowns look like nightgowns to me.

You could try searching on sites like etsy for people who make custom Disney clothing. I'm sure you can fiind a rendition of Ariel. I made my dds princess dresses to wear when we did BBB and they were a lot cooler and more comfortable than the dresses from Disney.

I would not let my dd wear a nightgown for a couple of reasons. One being the fabric used for the nightgowns is poly and is very hot in the summer in Florida. I make her cotton princess dresses that are much cooler.

I agree with this. The poly fabric would not be comfortable in the heat.

ETA: I should mention that my daughter wears the regular, hot, scratchy, polyester princess dresses in the heat and refuses to change. So your DD may be fine. But if you are concerned about the princess dresses being too hot, the nightgowns wouldn't be much better.

Thanks for the tips! I hadn't thought about the poly nightgowns. I'll look at the content and see what it is before I buy. I def want her to be comfy and happy and have a good time. Like you said, she may not care. Last time we visited was early May and she wore her Belle dress most of the day, but did change after lunch b/c it was hot. I'm going to the Disney store today to check out sales, I'll see what they've got! Thanks again everyone!:goodvibes

I was just shopping for my neice and disney store online has come cute themed outfits. What about a nice ariel sundress instead of a costume?

My kids never wore costumes in the park but they loved to wear the disney themed short sets, sun suits and dresses. I am petty sure they would not wear a nightgown in the parks- especially if they knew it was a nightgown :)

When my dd did BBB she had a tinkerbell outfit on - skort and ruffled shirt and she looked great.

I always found the nightgowns to be too transparent for my daughters to wear in public.

I have a Tiana and a Tink sundress for my DDs to wear to BBB and our Akershus breakfast the following day. They will be cute and comfortable! They came from Disneyshopping.com and were about $10 each. Neither one of mine will wear the itchy Princess dresses, not even on Halloween when it is cool and they can wear clothes underneath!

We have not done the nightgowns, but I did read on here where people have. They even showed picture,s and it looked cute. Maybe do a search...it wasn't that long ago and I think the thread was about dresses for bbb as well.

thread is called How to deal with princess dress in summer.

Thanks for the link and the tip on hot poly. I went to Disney store and looked @ the nightgowns. They are beautiful and could easily double as a costume, but they are poly. But the costumes are as well. so hmmm. either way, it didn't matter yesterday, they didn't have my girl's size. I'll check the little costumes link and keep checking the Disney store and online.

Thanks for all the tips and links everyone!:goodvibes

We bought a nightgown from a local Disney Store last year for my daughter for Halloweeen and it worked great. Now, that being said, I don't know if it would be too hot or not, but I think it would be better than a costume. Here's a picture...it had a lot of layers, so it wasn't see-through at all.

What a beautiful princess! That looks like the nightgowns I've seen. If I could only find her size! I've still got a bit of time, I'll keep my eyes open and see what comes up. I'm not giving up yet!

OP, If you do get a nightgown to use and this is the case, a tank and shorts underneath would do the trick. A tank may help with the sweat factor, too.

Just a little story. When DD was 4, we went to dinner at 1900 Park Fare. We changed her into her Cinderella dress at the resort before dinner and cabbed it to the GF. I had put her princess pajamas on under (pretty tank and capris) figuring it would be late when we got back and could just take her dress off. Well, as soon as all the characters had come around and the pictures had been taken she said, "Now I can take my dress off." :scared1:So she spent the rest of dinner and our evening at MK in her PJ's. NOBODY cared. Do what works best for your daughter. I do like the sundress idea if you can find one. :goodvibes
