We are going to be staying at the AKV from 9-28 to 10-4 next year. A friend of mine read somewhere that the resort has Night Vision Goggles available for Savannah view guests so that the animals can be seen when they're at their most active. Does anyone know any more about this? I:confused3

Its fun. You have to go to the resort guide. We found her outside past the pool, and past the pool bar, close to the fence on the left side. We got in line and waited a few minutes to use the vision goggles. The guide will point out the animals for you...

I don't know the specifics, but I was told the same thing by the CM when I booked my Savannah view room for August. That should be very cool!

On our visits they were out every night by the main viewing area. They had a couple of pair and folks would just pass them around.

If you have a video camera with "night vision" it is the same thing. You can view them AND record them ;) , and view from your balcony or anywhere else you like.

Ok, so it's not something each room individually gets...it's just available to everyone thru the tour guide? That's cool. I just wondered how that worked.
I was thinking how cool it would be to just sit out on your balcony w/ them and hang out watching them.

No it is not something that every room gets. Any quest can go and look with the googles. We did it this past Sept. My husband is a pilot, so he uses NVG's all the time, so it was neat for me and the children to look thru them. They are VERY EXPENSIVE, so make sure your children are very careful with them, I was ok with them until my little one wanted to look also (daddy helped her)

Have fun! It was a wonderful treat!

I was really bummed when we were there back in September. My DD6 and I walked around for 45 minutes looking for a guide and couldn't find one. In fact, we were there for 9 nights and never saw one (I specifically looked 3 or 4 nights). I even asked some CM's and they didn't know what I was talking about. :confused3 However, the weather was iffy every night, too, with either rain, the threat of rain, or thunder and lightning. Maybe it was just bad timing. Had a great time at AKL, otherwise!

When we stayed there it was always posted as an activity on the activity board by the bell station. I believe it was always around 9 pm out by the main viewing area.

Sounds like you needed some night-vision goggles to find the night-vision goggles. :rotfl2:

We did this tonight. Truly an awesome experience to use the night vision to view the animals. They're not really active, but you can catch a few grazing nearby. They put browse (sp?) close to the site where the night vision goggles session is being held so a few animals will come close. We saw a giraffe on the ground sleeping; really cool. There was nobody in line, however we went there at 10:55pm. The night vision activity is only held until 11pm.
