We are driving down to Disney in August. We live in central NJ. I figured it will take about 20 hours to get down there. We drove to Hilton Head last year, and knowing our limit, I know for sure we will need to stop somewhere overnight.

However, I checked out the hotel/motel options and not sure where to stay.

What are the nicer hotels/motels in NC and SC for a stopover right off I95?

Thanks!!

:)

Nice? We have most often stayed in a Motel 6 in Fayetteville (exactly half way) or Roanoke Rapids NC. We just sleep there, then get up and move on. No complaints. They have TV and are clean. If by "nice" you mean a pool and a continental breakfast ... really, there are a lot of major chain motels at all the I-95 exits.
Call ahead, though. They all have Internet sites. It's nice to stop only once and not be searching after 12 hours on the road.

Thanks. I checked out expedia and saw some of the rooms are already sold out for our date!!

I am actually thinking about driving straight through, by the time the kids wake up, we will be already in SC.

Are they all the same, Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, Country Inn? Thanks

We have found that Hampton Inns are very nice and very clean. And getting that free breakfast is a plus. We just grab a quick bite and go...

We are leaving from NJ this Friday evening, and have already booked a Hampton Inn at Kingsland GA.

5 DAYS till our next trip to Disney. I can hardly believe it!!

That is exciting to be down to the last week. We are travelling in 5 days too, except to California :) It is my DD's spring break.

Driving to GA, wouldn't that be in the morning when you check-in? When do you plan to check in at Disney? Just wondering.

I would like to stop, but another side of me is saying that instead of staying in a hotel/motel off the highway, I would rather get to the Boardwalk Villa (where we will be staying) and stay there to sleep.

But to drive straight through is no picnic for us either.

we just did the drive 2 weeks ago

we stoped in florence sc

wich is about 1/2 hours south of south of the border

town has about 20 motels right off i 95 check out i-95.com

i forget wich once we stayed at

it was clean but food was bad

the drive from nj to sc was great traffic was great next day
ga and fla was slow goining it rained hard but even on way home

fla and ga is slow on 95 so i wouldnt plan on goin to southern ga in 1 day unless your a hard core driver

btw we used route 1 in fla from the top to orlando it paralled 95 and had some lights but when 95 a parking lot it worked great and took us right passed daytona raceway wich we toured on the way home

have fun

Don't try to drive straight thru. By the time you get there, you'd be so wired it would take two days to get over it. We've driven to South of the Border - we live in Cranford, in one day and that was about as long as I could stand being in the car. We drove to FL for years (not just WDW trips, but visits to relatives and for business), but the past few years we've flown...leaving Newark at 7:30 a.m. and having lunch in Epcot!

Thanks for the replies.

We always fly and this is our first time ever driving to FL. We decided to drive because we are going to Hilton Head afterwards. It is for a 2-week vacation.

I think you are right, I should have a stopover.

What about Lumberton, NC? I want to get to the end of NC as close as possible, not sure if I can make it to Florence by midnight.

Thanks

We left North Jersey at 10:00AM and drove till 11:00PM...with gas stops, 1 lunch stop & a sit down dinner stop). This put us at Santee, SC! We stayed at a Holiday Inn which had just been renovated. I was impressed at the decor and cleanliness, and would definitely stay there again! The next day, it was about a 6 hour drive!
