This is a redux of a pre-trip report started many months ago. We have had a few changes, many brought about because of airline issues. So, some things have changed and some have stayed the same. We are celebrating our 35th anniversary on this trip, albeit a couple of months after the fact. We were at DL last year for our 34th and just could not get away to Florida this year in July. We don’t really WANT to be in Florida in July, but that is another story… With that in mind we have set ourselves the task of finding 35 new food and/or drink items at the kiosks; one for each year of our marriage.

When and Where: We usually go during the Food & Wine Festival because we like FoodAndWineAndBeer... This will be our 10th visit during this wonderful time. Originally we were staying at AKL but in April my DH asked to stay at the Poly instead. Since he never, ever asks anything of our trips I booked Lagoon View as a surprise to him. I also added a night at All Star Sports because of the above-mentioned airline problems. Our dates are now September 26-October 1, 2008.

The Eaters and Drinkers: DH (Bob): 58, Disney Veteran because we drafted him and he has no pre-existing conditions that allow him to be exempt. WDW is not his favorite place to be (or so he claims), but he knows it is mine and over the years has found delight in being allowed to spend time alone in the resort reading and downing a few mugs of suds.

Me (Elin): 57, Lover of all Disney Parks and resorts, but especially WDW and all it has to offer.

We are AP holders. I have been to WDW more than 50 times. Bob and our DDs, ages 29 and 22 (who are not going this trip), have been more than 30 times.

The Story: I had originally booked a package with the DlxDP. I rapidly came to the realization that we would be better served to use our DDE (or Tables in Wonderland as it is now called) instead. We have many favorite restaurants and love all the food kiosks too. So, I booked a lot of TS meals knowing that we may cancel some of the lunches and instead spend time eating and drinking around the World Showcase.

Our original flight was to get us into MCO at 9:40 a.m. Delta has changed the flight from non-stop to a flight with a layover and has changed our departure time and flight numbers and layover times 9 times since May. I finally called and asked if we would be permitted to change our flight to the night before, and after a very long wait and a very helpful agent we were able to make that happen. This is why I have booked the extra night at All Star Sports. We won’t land at MCO until 10:45 p.m. so there is no need to pay for the Poly for that night! We will sleep at Sports and check into the Poly first thing Saturday morning.

Since this trip is more about the gastronomic pleasures of WDW restaurants and festivals we will probably be spending more time on the eating and drinking part than on the thrill ride aspect. We are not planning any special events at the F&W Festival. I have done many of them in the past but there is no Party for the Senseless this year on our Saturday and any of the few other events that do exist during our trip this year would not make Bob happy. I had hoped that possibly the Beermaker's Dinner would happen to be the weekend we are there. I would probably have booked that for him as a surprise. But… nope! If there is something in the free events that just jumps out at me when we get there I will do it by myself and Bob will happily stay at the Poly and drink another beer... er... I mean read another book.

For those of you who read my initial brainstorming, we have kept most of the same reservations. They are listed below.

The Plan: Breakfast for Bob every morning. We both love breakfast. For goodness’ sake, 35 years ago we were married at 10:00 a.m. so we could have a sit down breakfast for our reception! We will either eat at Kona Café or Captain Cook’s each morning. Early. We are also planning to meet up with friends, old and new, for drinks throughout our trip.

SIGNATURE DINNERS
Citricos
California Grill
Narcoossee’s
Yachtsman Steakhouse

We have never eaten at Citricos or Narcoossee’s. Christmas Eve 2006 was spent with a spectacular meal at Yachtsman and we are looking forward to that. That brings us to California Grill. This used to be our favorite restaurant. But 5 years ago we had such a bad experience there that we vowed it would be a very long time before we came back. We know that the wait time for a table will still be long (hopefully NOT 3 hours past our reservation time like in December 2002) and the offending server is probably not there anymore. A wonderful and knowledgeable DISer (ehagerty) has suggested a server to request so that should help too. So, we decided to put it on the list this trip and give it another try.

TABLE SERVICE LUNCHES
Chefs de France
Coral Reef
Le Cellier
Biergarten

We have eaten both lunch and dinner at Coral Reef numerous times and have had good/bad service and wait times but always a good meal. It has been 11 or 12 years since we last ate at Chefs de France and we both enjoyed that meal, but our DDs did not, hence the lagtime between visits. Bob’s two favorite Epcot restaurants are Biergarten and Le Cellier, so those round out our list.

As always, thanks for reading!

Great plans, Elin! :cool1: I'll have to find your other PTR.

My DH and I were at the 2004 Food and Wine Festival celebrating our 25th anniversary. Samual Adams had a free seminar featuring four beer samples. You should check the program to see if Samual Adams is back this year. Your DH might be interested in this.

The plans look terrific, Elin! I can't wait to read all about it. Someday, when we don't have kids in school, I'll get my dh to WDW for the Food and Wine Festival.

Thanks! He loves the beer seminar. Even if we have to wait in the hot sun we always do it. He says the F&W Festival is always about WINE and beer. :rotfl: I think this is the 8th time we have gone together and the 12th time for me. I CANNOT WAIT!!!! :goodvibes

ETA: By the way... I used a lot of the info from the other PTR in this one so people wouldn't have to go back and do a lot of reading. But... if you are really interested here is the link!

And you will love doing WDW in a completely different way, Beth. I hope Bob and I can meet you two when you do this! :goodvibes

Update: I found a great $30 E-coupon on the National website this morning so I got a compact car for under $70 for the 6 days we are there. We won't need cabs to get to and from some of the dinners now, and transferring luggage from AS Sports to the Poly will be very easy too. :)

Have a Very Happy Anniversary:flower3: . I can't wait to read your TR:goodvibes . Count me inpopcorn::

Elin...your trip sounds yummy! :thumbsup2

Make sure you take lots of pictures!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Thanks, Alicia! :goodvibes

I plan to take LOTS of photos. And I am glad you said this because I am not taking my laptop this trip so I won't be uploading pictures every night. I need to get another memory card just to be sure!

Well, only one more sleep until we leave. :)

The meal plans have not changed (yet) but there have been some additions to the trip. There are a number of DISers that I have been talking to quite a bit who will be in WDW the same time we are. It seems our social calendar is filling up. Some get-togethers are in the parks and hinge on timing and others are in adult beverage dispensing locations. The latter might impact our ability to arrive at the former...

Again have a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY:goodvibes and a GREAT TRIP:yay: . Can't wait to see and hear about it when you return:flower3:

Thanks so much! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. You would think that after 50+ trips to WDW it wouldn't make me giddy.... but it does! :yay:

Elin-Have a fab trip!! What a great way to celebrate!!

You're eating at some great restaurants! Can't wait to hear about the food and wine festival! And I LOVE that giddy day before the trip feeling! All packed and ready to go? Have a wonderful anniversary - thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much, Alysa. And thanks for reading!

I noticed that you were BOOed by AshleyMWC... funny story about that. She and I have 'met' just briefly on the DIS because of her name. See my older DD and I both went to a college with MWC as its acronym so I PMed her. Come to find out that she also attended the same school and lives not far from where our DD lived until just recently. We also discovered that our mother/daughter WDW trips were often about the same time!

Now... back to the TR.

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go... The car is in for service and I have a manicure scheduled for 10:00. I teach three private lessons this afternoon and then...

We're OFF!!

Gone are the days of a plethora of non-stop flights out of Richmond so I am desperately hoping that this tropical storm Kyle does not impact our flight out at 5:45. We do not have a long layover in Atlanta and I do not want to spend the night there!

If I don't find time to check in here again before we leave, know that I will toast you all a few times during this trip. And I will post an update when we get home next week. I am not taking my laptop this time. I find I spend too much time reading about WDW when I do!

See ya real soon! :wave2:

I know what I forgot to say, and wanted it to be in this TR...

Yesterday I had three of my youngest students (ages 4-5) bring their Mickey Mouse stuffies to class to say "goodbye" to Mrs. H. And another 5-6 students this week wore their favorite WDW T-shirts for me. Some others even had a list of rides I had to do for them. :goodvibes

I have to say that I was touched and even teared up a bit. I am a very lucky lady to be doing what I do for a living and it is the only reason Bob and I don't yet live in Orlando!

We left home about 3:30 p.m. and had an uneventful drive to the Richmond airport. Ate a light dinner at Applebee’s right in the airport and then waited to board our plane. Everything was right on time. For now. I am not going to bore you all except to say that our entire trip was spectacular, with the exception of our plane travels. We had 9 itinerary changes in the past 4 months, resulting in many flight number/airport/seat changes. I had enough Delta Skymiles to book my flight and got a decent fare for Bob so we were stuck with Delta and with Richmond. We barely made our connections both coming and going and sat on runways for many more minutes than I am willing to think about. We could have driven to WDW the first day in about the same amount of time it took to fly!!

No more ranting…

Picked up our car at National and although we had rented a compact, this was what was available at the Emerald Aisle when we got there. It was fun to drive and got decent mileage so it was a nice change from our normal sedans!

We finally checked into All Star Sports at almost 2:00 a.m. and got to our room in building 8. We both thought this was cute, but after I snapped a quick couple of photos we were out cold for about 5 hours. Tomorrow we move over to the Poly!
