"where did it all begin for you?" What was the first Disney pin you ever bought? The one that started it all?

Thank you for the great question Karen... Mine would be the Walt and Mickey 101 pin... That is the first pin I bought....:)

I was at WDW January 1, 2000 for a day and read about pin trading and decided to buy a pin or two to start out my trading. I remember seeing the January POM, but turned that down for the 2000 Spaceship Earth Pin With the Mickey Wand. I was bummed that I didn't buy the January POM, but I ended up trading for it on my April visit. And the Spaceship Earth pin is still one of my favs.

Great Question!

The first pins I bought....during our trip in 1997 for the 25th anniversary.
HOWEVER....they were just some cute souveniers I put on a hat!

BUT the REAL bug started in February 2000......I partially blame (;) ) Shirley 38 for doing this to me! She told me of this pin trading 'stuff' in WDW......well, there I was in Tomorrowland, at the pin cart.....LOOKING FOR LE's (on Shirley's advice)......I bought 3 Feb POM .......oh geez.....and by the END of that trip........I had about 20 new pins! lol

Thank you Shirley! YOU are the bestest friend!

It was all DW's fault :) She was the one that started me in on this, and now I think I have the bug worse than she does...lol. I don't honestly remember what the first pin I bought was, but I remember when I got bit by the pinbug.

We went to WDW in October of '99, and Elaine (DW) had been buying the pins from TDS. She found out about the trading thing and decided to take a few with her on the trip. Me, I was rather uninspired, but figured what the heck, it'll be fun for her. Much to my surprise, it was fun for me as well, as we talked to more guests and met more new people than we had in any of our previous trips. It even got to be MORE fun as we met with some other traders staying at the BW and found out what the "hot" pins were. Gave us something to look for, and that's when I started getting into it.

The first time I can remember actually being excited about it was the same day I bought my first lanyard. We were in AK and a CM walked by really quickly going the other direction. I glanced at the lanyard he was wearing and spotted the error Yin Yang, which was a big deal back then...lol. Well, that was it, we were off running after him to trade for that pin, and I am fairly certain I've been hooked ever since.

First pins we ever bought was the Halloween 2000 set. We were going to give some pins to my SIL for Christmas (because she is a collector of everything), so hubby went over to buy the pins. That was his first experience of waiting in line for pins. He got two sets, one for SIL and one for me, 'just in case'. That was it.. we are hopelessly caught in it now! It's my favorite set becuase I remember how cute I thought they were when I first saw them.. he brought them to my work and we went to lunch together. :) Ahh.. I remember the day like it was yesterday!

When the first The Disney Store opened in the Eastern US in Tyson's Corner, Virginia, about 13 years ago for the first six weeks they gave out a pin for each $25 in merchandise you bought (until they ran out of each week's pins). JudySue and I managed to keep most of our purchases to just ver $25 so we could get lots of the pins; we figured they might be valuable some day.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I had been buying the occaisional pin for years. November of 2000 I was bummed at not being able to find a Villains Pin set. I started looking around for Villain pins to make my own set. Well one set led to another.......and then I got hooked up with the rest of the CT contingent and the rest as they say is history!

The very first pin is just a blurr.

I know it started in the Emporium on Main Street, Disneyworld, somewhere in the 70's. Going down to DIZ from Philly at least twice and sometimes as high as five times a year, everything is blurred. Now I know because of my maturity, Jeff will take a shot at my chromosones or something similar. I can handle it (meet you on the golf course Jeff, or something subdued, like Bass Fishing).

But, back to the subject: I fell in love with a corduroy Waly Disney World baseball style cap. I wish I had that cap today. Well my DW (Shirley 38) said, look at these pins. Let's jazz (not Jeff) this hat up a bit. On went some pins. Well after a couple trips this cap collapsed. I then went to something beefier. With my chromosones acting up, I don't remember this hat, cap, whatever.

Somewhere along the way (again blurry), I went to a beautiful, leather Indiana Jones Hat. Sorry, that collapsed real quick under the weight of the Pins. This is now my Fly Fishing hat.

The Current "HAT" is now on the verge of going----I think that the pin Nat sent to me has pushed "THE HAT" to the edge. What's next, a Sombrero ???
I tried some Trading; fun, but not me. Collector ?? I guess so. But LE's, the hot pins, again not me. I like definition in a Pin. I may be unique. Or have I been groping for a 30 year identity. I hope this life experience did not bore you ??

......since it just happened about 5 weeks ago!! It's the "classic" or "rag doll" or "stretched out" Mickey and Minnie. I was NOT goint to trade and collect because the kids jumped into it, and I figure I'd be spending all my money on their pins, and I got the Minnie and Mickey 'cause they were cute, and I'd have a "mascot" for my hat. Then I found out it was a set of 4, so of course I had to find Donald and Pluto.......and the rest, as they say is "history"!!

To think of all the years I could have buying pins....... I used to look at them on the racks, and think why would anybody buy a pin for their souvenir???? I mean, you can use a beach towel, but what do you do with a pin? Aaagh!!!!
