Nextel service on board?

Can anyone tell me if their Nextel Direct-Connect worked on the ship? I don't want to have to bring walkie-talkies if I don't have to since the Nextel are the same thing.

It will work in Port Canaveral until you get out to sea and then you'll have no service until you get back to the U.S., so you might want to bring the walkie talkies with you .... Andy

Hi....I brought my Nextel with me and did not get service ANYWHERE...lol until we were close to home base (florida). My brother who has Verizon, got service in Port but I never got ANY with my nextel....no phone, no walkie talkie!

I have usually gotten Nextel service until a little while out of Port Canaveral, or in the case of my last cruise until we were out of Port Everglades a little bit. I was on the phone, not the direct connect, with my office until just after 9:00p.m. I remember this very well because they interrupted my dinner. LOL

Our Nextel's worked fine through Port until slightly off shore. Then , NO SERVICE until we got back to Port Canaveral. I
