Next DVC Project? -- Animal Kingdom Lodge -- Picture of Notice

I've never stayed at AKL , but wouldn't the view be much more " AWE " higher up at that resort. Just thinking a better view of all the animals would be better selling point , weather or not thats what the buyer would end up with . This all if AKL is the next DVC .
You have a more expansive view of the savannah from the higher floors, but you are much closer to the animals on the lower floors. I've stayed on the 5th, 3rd and 2nd floors and I liked the 2nd floor the best -- we were pretty much eye level with the giraffes. It was incredible. But, if getting VAKL with savannah views means being on the 5th or 6th floor, I'll take it over having the villas in a separate building with no savannah or worse, no VAKL at all!

To me it makes absollutely no sense to build models at the AKL for any other resort. Why travel to AKL if you are interested in buying at SSR or the elusive VCR? And why convert rooms at the AKL only to change them back. Neither makes any sense to me.

The models at BWV (I didn't even know there was still a model there) makes more sense as owners staying at BWV or BCV can pop in easily. Even OKW folk can easily walk over to evaluate whether thay want to add on. And those rooms can easily be changed to BWV decor when the SSR is sold out.
It makes as much sense as the current BWV/SSR models do. They even have open houses at those models!

Isn't the fifth floor an odd place to put something that you're trying to sell? It's not like on the boardwalk where you can have people walking by. It's not even as if the AKL is so convenient to get to. It doesn't make sense to me.

Bobbi
Me too, but I'm not holding my breath, because I think it's a long shot. I agree that the VCR look like more of a definite maybe than VAKL does.

he LOVES that resort and I think instead of adding on to an existing VWL DVC we may end up getting there IF it ever becomes a reality.....

Hopefully not, as I have always said that I felt DVC would be at the Contemporary and then at AKL, so please tell your hubby not to die on us. :thumbsup2

I don't think they would have any trouble, a large percentage would be addons.

No, because the suggestion I was responding to was that SSR models would be built at the AKL and then converted back to regular AKL rooms.

The BWV models will eventually just be BWV units. Much easier and cheaper to change decor that rip down walls as would be needed to change a 1 BR unit back to 2 AKL rooms.

Since the BWV/SSR models have everything in place for sales etc I imagine over the years any other DVC resorts may have models there too. :confused3

I too think that the models at SSR will be used for years. They garage for the vans is there, the reception area and initial interview rooms and the building that has the map to show how you can use DVC around the world.

I think they'll continue to use them until enough desire for additional SSR points is generated and they'll build it out to Phase IV ...

Of course, by this I mean the Models + Preview Center as a whole. ;)

I also saw the notice at AKL posted at http://officialrecords.occompt.com and it was filed 7/19/2006. I also noticed that the expiration for this work is listed as December 31, 2006... so somethings gotta be going on soon....

I also saw that they filed a Notice of Commencement for the "Disney's Cinema Building Modifications and Model Room Construction" which it has located at 1948 Broadway, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830.

It was filed on 7/7/2006 and valid thru July 2007. No hints are in there about what is planned, but definately something in the works there too.

The construction company listed is "Hardin Construction" which has done quite a few of the Marriot Timeshares....

Anyway, just more info to throw out there...

All those things you say about SSR were true of OKW in the begining too. We had a whole building for sales called the Commadore House, and it was torn down and new buildings built in its place. The same could happen at SSR or anywhere.

The model at BWV is a 2BR lockoff with BWV decor. It is not an SSR model unit. So the only thing they have to do to make it available for renting is touch up any wear and tear.

Putting it at AKL allows interested buyers to see exactly what they would be getting -- giraffes and zebras and wildebeests wandering the grounds right below their balcony! Seeing it in person is so much better than if the VAKL models were located elsewhere with just some photos of the animals. Plus, anyone who feels the AKL to be an inconvenient location probably isn't a good candidate for buying points there anyway. Personally, I love the location -- you feel as if you have been transported to Africa!

As to why the 5th floor, as has been mentioned, the 5th and 6th floors are 4 feet deeper than the lower floors and they probably need that extra space for DVC units.

Bingo. This is an excellent reason to locate the model rooms on the 5th floor. I can think of no other DVC where the view from the room is a major selling point. Locating the models here allows the guides to showcase that view.

Oh, thanks. I misunderstood someone's post about the models....thought they meant the models at BWV were for SSR. :confused3

As you said, a very easy fix to get the unit into inventory.

Yup, I think the views here will be key ... and like was said, if it's too far for people to visit the model, why would they want to stay there?

It'd be cool if along with a VAKL addition, they also put in a direct transportation system to AK. ;)

But now I am wondering whether there will be construction during early December, if the permit shows completion(?) by the end of that month. I did not receive a discount on my ressie and would be very disappointed if the lounge is not available or is under construction and/or if our room is in a less convenient location or smaller, given what I paid for concierge level.

My husband looked it up and somewhere (yahoo maps? google earth?) he found that there is a "Broadway" street in SSR - my guess is that the Disney Cinema Building is the theater there and they are going to have model rooms inside of it so they can utilize the rooms in the Springs for guests. Or maybe they will build mock-ups of whatever the next resort will be to show until the models are ready there. ???

I had looked it up on Live Local and noticed it was at SSR so I assumed they were going to do something there... but what is the question. Moving the SSR models, creating new models for AKL or CR....

Folks visiting later this year... keep an eye out.... :goodvibes

I agree. What other reason to put them there except to showcase the view? Remember the BCV model on the first floor with a pool view, and the BWV with a whatever :confused3 view? They were showcasing rooms. They can showcase VAKL rooms anywhere. But they can only to the view there.

Assuming of course - these 5th floor rooms are savannah view ones. There are pool view ones also.

I agree this is a notice that work is starting. What is strange to me is the lack of a date, a date of submission, and a date of commencement. In thirty years of submitting building, zoning, environmental impact and other permits and applications, I've never had any that didn't have to be dated.

Is DVD only concerned with DVC? Is DVD the current title for the old Disney Development Company? :confused3

That was my question, I am new here so maybe someone already knows and I have a silly question  but here goes ...

When Disney builds/remodels at a regular hotel (anything that is not a DVC resort) do they obtain contracts/permits under a different name? Something other than DVD? :confused3 I am all for VAKL or CRV, I think both would be great .. although I am hoping for something at DLR sometime too! pixiedust:

we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread .... popcorn::
