This is a picture of the notice. It was filed two weeks ago. Please note two key statements in the notice (boxed in red).

1) The owner is listed as Disney Vacation Development, Inc, not some other Disney entity. If this was work being done to update some of the rooms in the AKL, a different owner would be listed.

2) The purpose is: "to convert to model rooms". I think this speaks volumes in the context of DVD, Inc. being the owner. There have been model rooms at each of the DVC resorts (OKW, BWV, WLV, and SSR) during the sales period.

It'll be interesting to see if construction begins on the 5th Floor of the Animal Kingdom Lodge in the next few months.

So for those of you with upcoming trips to AKL, look for the construction and report back.

Wow! This is pretty convincing. I"m always amazed at the sleuthing capabilites on the people on these boards. Good work. I'll be there in October and be sure to poke around looking for signs of construction.

Boy, I agree about the detective work. Between Tinks and Troy, it has made for some fun reading. :thumbsup2

Pretty convincing, and I for one HOPE IT'S TRUE! :thumbsup2

You know, now that I look at it again..... Perhaps it is just that "MODEL ROOMS" for the existing SSR so they can have another sales center much like they do at the Boardwalk.

Wow! VAKL? :yay:
IMO, either a DVC at the Contemporary and/or AKL is a sure winner! :thumbsup2 Imagine having such fantastic choices within our already great Club! :cool1:

If memory serves me correctly, people that have been booking for 2007 Concierge at AKL, have been doing so at a reduced rate since the "Original Concierge Floors" will not be available and are having to stay in rooms on the lower floors?!?

The Plot Thickens!

I like both CR and AKL....I hope they do both at the same time. I love that they are cracking down on habitual renters as well.

The question is: Could the model rooms actually be for the CR DVC...at least to start.

Because there's not a whole lot of room at the CR, itself, to build models. In addition, with the refurbs being complete, they could be reticent to gut those rooms to make models.

Now, if the CR is the first planned DVC, with AKL to follow just after.....if you create the models at AKL, at least during the initial construction of CR...you could then redecorate them and reuse them for AKL's DVC.

Just throwing stuff at the wall, here....

To me it makes absollutely no sense to build models at the AKL for any other resort. Why travel to AKL if you are interested in buying at SSR or the elusive VCR? And why convert rooms at the AKL only to change them back. Neither makes any sense to me.

The models at BWV (I didn't even know there was still a model there) makes more sense as owners staying at BWV or BCV can pop in easily. Even OKW folk can easily walk over to evaluate whether thay want to add on. And those rooms can easily be changed to BWV decor when the SSR is sold out.

I've never stayed at AKL. When you say "5th floor", how many potential villas would that allow for in your best guess? If this is taking the concierge rooms though, where will they end up?

yup. One of them being me! :thumbsup2

Talked with Concierge staff on more than once occasion about our Jan 07 ressie. Says there is going to be "some remodeling" and that the regular deluxe rooms are not available. I thought super news for us, because I got a super duper rate ($100 off).

Now there might be a chance, my dreams might be coming true!!

Well........hopefully, both possiblities are true......however, DH likes the idea of a monorail DVC and I like the AKL idea...........so, I guess we'll just have to addon at both!!!!

he LOVES that resort and I think instead of adding on to an existing VWL DVC we may end up getting there IF it ever becomes a reality.....

We would definitely add-on at AKL. We have already used points twice to stay concierge there. It is my DS(6)'s favorite resort. I adore the hustle and bustle of the BWVs, our home resort, but would love to own at AKL for a calm, relaxing end to every trip..not to mention dinner at Jikos!!!! Keeping our fingers crossed that this one is true! :thumbsup2

I don't think that this necessarily means that the DVC Villas will be on the 5th floor, just that the models will be.

I agree that it doesn't make sense to build a model at AKL for villas to be built at a different resort. But it could be models on the 5th floor to show off villas that are being built/remodeled someplace at AKL. It could be a new wing, a new building or a remodel of some area within the current lodge.

Well if it's announced I will have to get busy redoing the point portfolio. I would HAVE to own here as long as one of the options was Savannah view.

Isn't the fifth floor an odd place to put something that you're trying to sell? It's not like on the boardwalk where you can have people walking by. It's not even as if the AKL is so convenient to get to. It doesn't make sense to me.

Good point... it just sounds so weird. The information pointing towards the Contemporary Resort sounds much more viable.

I called my guide today to be sure she still had a note about me wanting VAKL points should it be announced.

We chatted about the internet and she told me members often know things before she does.

So she said they haven't been told anything, but they have heard the rumors too.

She said most think that VAKL is next. And there would be a 200 room DVC there. I'm taking that as her opinion and those of other guides who discuss the rumors, not as anything factual.

When I mentioned about the conversion of some 5th floor rooms to models, she didn't blink an eye. She said yes, they could do the models there, but they would just sell them from SSR.

She also said SSR is in Phase 3 selling and the entire complex is about 70% sold out. So we are not too long away from the next announcement.
