Thanks! That's a beautiful collection! The stories bring tears to my eyes because they hit close to home.
My partner and I are foster parents, (well, she is. I'm not licensed since only one unmarried adult per household can legally be licensed. But that doesn't make me any less "Mama"! )
So anyway, we've had our beautiful foster daughter for almost 2 years now. We hope with all of our hearts that the day will come when we get to adopt her!
We actually almost had her taken away about a year ago because the agency that was handling her case happened to be affiliated with the Lutheran/Catholic churches. We got a call one day telling us that she was going to be removed from our home the very next day simply because we're a same sex couple. Needless to say, it was a fight. We got all the way to the ACLU before Childrens' Division decided that taking her from our home was not in the best interest of the child. They moved the case to a different agency.
It's simple things like this that people don't think about. Things that we deal with on a daily basis just trying to be a family.

Thank you for posting, like many here, we are Foster Parents waiting to adopt and start our family.
Hopefully stories like these will open up people's eyes that a gay family is no different than a straight family and that children deserve a loving, supportive environment no matter who one loves.

Good luck to you guys. We're in Western New York but DP is from Watertown and she knows a lady from High School who lives in Adams and she and her DP have 3 or 4 kids.

Great link, Missy. Thanks! The major difference between gay and non-gay families is the response of non-gays to the gay family and the damage it potentially does.

Photo essays like the one you linked for us go a long way to showing that gay families are viable, beautiful and full of love.

I will go so far to say that I sense a correlation between being raised in a gay family and a higher degree of social responsibility (in that the children may be more accepting, have a much better grasp of diversity and a higher level of understanding that each person has the right to be what s/he is) than may be found in children raised in non-gay households.

That would be a great social science study!

Oh, cool. We live near Watertown. I spent many a summer in Rochester with family while I was growing up. Still have friends there and visit whenever I get a chance.
