NEWS: New boats for Pirates of the Caribbean

Here's a picture so one posted of the new boats on the Theme Parks Board.

And a picture of the old boat to compare.

I think the seat backs on pirates were exceptionally low, if I remember correctly, but it's hard to tell from that photo. I know my father has a little trouble stepping in and out of some of the rides had a very hard time on those because there wasn't enough height to give him a good amount of support while getting in and out. The new ones appear to be a bit higher, which would be good.

Actually to me they look a little deeper. But that could be me thinking that when its just the seat back being taller. Actually I think if the boat were a little deeper they'd be more comfortable to sit in.

So you think their brand new boats not just refurbished boat they put new seats in and reprinted. I think their just new seats the old ones had a metal bar going on top now it looks built into the seat better.

Based on what the article says they are brand new boats.

If you look at the blog post, it says they are new boats. The pictures on the blog show it better than the picture posted from the Theme Parks Board.

The seats still look pretty low to me, but the backs of the seats do seem higher and easier to grab.

I guess since their was a diser that saw them being trucked in i guess they are new just couldn't believe Disney would spend the money on new boats when they could of just refurbished the old boats.

It's hard to tell from the pictures but I wonder if the side of the boat is lower. A lower side would pretty much stop me from transferring from the side of the boat back into my chair.

It's hard to tell because none of the new pictures have been from the same angle as old pictures.
One description said they were similar to the Small World boats. I had measured the step down in Small World and the old Pirates boats previously and they were pretty close.

I think they have to stay with the same dimensions as the old board just with new seats. Because it has to fit on the track and be the same night for loading and unloading since they didn't make any changes to the platform.

These could be the 2013 version of the boats meaning their the same boat with new seats and paint. Still new boats in theory but not new boats in design. When they got new boats at splash the was the same but just added the lap bar not sure if they for new ones or just add the lap bars.

We were just there, rode Pirates, and I didn't even notice any difference! :lmao:

I guess the step down was about the same, didn't seem any harder to me. My hip was bothering me, so it did take a bit of an "oomph" to get back out. I was expecting that, though.

There's no safety issue with the drop on Pirates unless someone might be hanging halfway out of the boat trying to jump onto the set or something silly. :/ And a lap bar wouldn't keep anyone in who was determined to try a stunt like that.

I'll be interested to hear how it is getting in and out of the boats. We're taking Mom with us for our upcoming trip and she does have some mobility issues.

So glad this board is here for tips and answers to questions I didn't know I needed to ask for her! :)

The reason they put lap bars on splash mountain was not so much for safety as it was to keep guests seated you don't know how many times guest would stand up in the ride even after the cms would make announcements asking them not to.

I just hope I never have to see the day they install lap bars on the people mover because that also a ride they have problems with people standing on.

Hoping someone will report what it's like getting in and out of the new boats. Anyone? :listen:

I already did - post #13 - didn't seem too much different, and I will add that having the higher backs/grab rail on the seats made it easier to stay balanced.

How did I miss it? Thought I read the whole thread but glad to hear you didn't notice much difference and happy to hear the higher backs/grab rail made it easier to balance. :thumbsup2
