News from the Doorway to Dreams event today

I was reading this to mean that there is an $8 per point discount, PLUS a $1280 Disney gift card, PLUS a $500 Disney Visa credit, PLUS the 5 nights at either Kidani or SSR, PLUS Fastpasses.

Is that right? Or is the $8 per point discount in the form of a $1280 Disney gift card...which is basically what they are already offering now?

Also, someone else mentioned a $1000 gift card with a 160-point contract. Can anyone confirm whether it's $500 or $1000?

And, does this mean NO incentives for anything less than 160 points?

Thanks to everyone for reporting back! :)

I sat down with one of the on-site guides tonight... and he confirmed that yes... the offer is basically what they are offering right now for 160 points with the exception of: it is a $1000 visa gift card rather than $500 and you can choose to stay at AKV instead of SSR and it's for 5 nights rather than 160 points.

Are these incentives for new people buying into DVC or people who aleady have DVC and wants to add on?

They are incentives for both new purchases and add-ons...

Thanks for the updates and "live" report. We were also there last night and while it was nice, I actually thought the event they did in February (I think it was Feb) about AKV was a little better (better/more giveaways, the photopass pictures at the end).

They also had the editor of the Disney Files Magazine and introduced him by saying he was going to tell us about some exciting changes. DH grabbed my arm as if to say "behave" as we were sitting in the front and he thought they might mention the new reservation policy. They did not, but the editor (whose name escapes me) did a nice presentation on all the changes to DCA. If I remember correctly, it should all be finished completely in 2012 (again I think that's when they said Cars Land would be done.)

Don't get me wrong, overall the presentation was still nice, just not as good as the last one IMHO. Then again, maybe I already knew most of what they talked about from being on the Disboards! ;)

I still think it would have been funny if they had served mini BLT sandwiches as one of the appetizers :rotfl2:

So, can the 5 nights be used DURING Magic Season? I'm guessing not, or else they would have said "up to AND INCLUDING Magic Season."

These "special incentives" are really disappointing. Not even close to what was offered at the event in Feb., which I'm told was DOUBLE developer points and annual passes.

IMHO, the 5 nts. aren't even as good as MATCHING developer points...not everyone needs or even wants a 1BR (we'd rather have a Studio for 7 nts. than a 1BR for 5), and the DP gave some people a one-time opportunity to combine points to book a larger unit (2BR or GV) for a special family trip.

And fastpasses vs. annual passes? No contest there.:sad2:

The $1000 gift card is nice, but I know some have been able to get both the Disney Visa promo and a referral bonus, so it's not really anything they haven't already given before.

I made a reservation for Sunday and we were willing to make the drive up (2.5-3 hours) and finally make our first DVC purchase if the incentives were right. Now, it looks like we'll be cancelling instead. I guess we'll hold on to our $$$ and wait for a possible BLT announcement...and see what the incentives look like when they have 3 DVC's to sell.:confused3

We went last night...we had a great time!

We didnt add on...althought I thought the incentives were pretty good..we jsut bought last Sept...have already used a little over 700 points within the first year!
They offered beer and wine, hot snacks...quiche etc....were great with the kids trying to keep them busy in addition to the play room area.

Our 2 year old had the best time watching the presentation....and when the Fab 5 showed up..it was all over:)

What fun to have a free "Disney Night" and watch your 2 year old have the best one on one time with characters that would never happen at WDW due to the crowds!

She played with Goofy, Donald and Pluto and we lvoed watching her!
Anyway, back to business...Doorway to Dreams seems to have the best incentives, so down the road when we do add on, we will definately wait for an event here!!!

However I noticed one odd thing. The box they were drawing from for the little prizes WAS NOT the same box that they drew from for the big WDW trip prize. There was a clear plastic one on stage for the whole presentation and that's the one they drew from for the potatohead, art, etc. Then the legal rep came out at the very end with a box shaped that looked like a footlocker or something, and that's the one they drew from for the big prize. I personally only filled out 1 entry form on the way in, so I am a little upset that not everyone was entered into the trip drawing which, let's face it, was the big reason I went
.

FYI - the entry form we filled out had two sheets of paper on top of each other and the bottom one was a carbonless copy. when the lady at the table took our entry, she tore them apart and put them in two different boxes. there's no way Disney wouldn't do it 'right'.

the $1280 was not in addition to the $8 off per point. You could use it as your downpayment which meant you only needed $500 to add on that night. Also, they served food. the had watermelon, honeydew, canteloupe, mini quiche, chicken flautas, mini meatballs in some white sauce, chesse and crackers, as well as soft drinks and water.

The smallest add on they had was 100 points. It's $104 per point, $8 credit 130 developer points and a $500 Disney visa card

160 points
$8 off per point
5 night stay (as mentioned above)
fast passes for entire party
$1000 disney visa card
Didn't note any developer points for this category, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I didn't even write down the others because I knew I didn't need to know them! LOL

I just got back from Disney on the 23rd, wish I had the $500 to add 160 points, the $1000 and the additional 5 nite stay would have been sweet

There was beer :drinking1 & wine too. The even kept the bar open this time before, during, & while you met w/ individual CMs about buying/adding on.

I got them to offer 160 bonus points rather than the 5 night stay.
I found that to be more flexible.

This way I can do 7 nights in Magic season for 134 points in efficieny and bank 26 points

Thoughts?

When was the AP offered? That would definetly have sweetened the deal. What were the details of the AP?

His name is Ryan. I had a chance to talk to him. Very nice guy.
