It's with a very heavy heart that I am writing this. Nathan has taken a very sudden and grave turn for the worse. He has started bleeding internally and is suspected to have a condition called DIC (disseminated introvascular coagulation ?) that is preventing his body from being able to heal the sight of the bleeding. In the past 24 hours he has lost copious amounts of blood and the amount is increasing with every passing. We have tried a few things the doctor suggested, but they have failed. They don't believe there is anything left to do. They told us one of two things will happen next. Best case, he only continues to lose blood at this rate and he may survive another 4 days. Worst case, because of the DIC the bleeding increases and he bleeds out in a matter of hours. (I will not give you the definition of bleeding out because it is too horrid to imagine).
Eric and I are having a great deal of trouble absorbing this horrible information. At the same time we are trying to prepare our other two children for what they are going to be seeing in the next few days.
We know you all care for Nathan and our family and we are drawing strength from that. Please continue to lift us up in prayer and beg God to spare this precious baby any pain. Though what we are seeing, and Nate is experiencing, is worse than anything we could ever have imagined, we are holding steadfast to our faith. We are being still, letting go and letting God. (There is a wonderful song that we have been drawing comfort from. It's by Mercy Me and called I Can Only Imagine. I think you can hear it on the internet. If you have a chance, please take a listen as I believe it speaks what must be in Nates heart)
We intend to spend as much time as humanly possible with Nathan over the next few days, so please understand if we are not able to give you frequent updates. We promise to let you know things as time permits. We love you all.
"The Lord bless and keep us, may His face shine upon us, be gracious and give us peace."
