Newport bay refurb?

Hi everyone - after quite a long time away from the forums I finally have a new (if distant) DLP trip to plan!
We are aiming for mid November and will book soon to take advantage of the super early booking offer.
My mum has always wanted to stay in the Newport bay, and I would like to since I've never been there.
Am I right in thinking it's undergoing refurb this year? Does anyone know the dates?
If it's going to be messy there we will probably return to sequoia lodge instead...

The Newport Bay will be under refurbishment until 2015. Work started in November last year and they are closing a wing at a time to under take the work. To the casual observer you would not know that work is well and truly under way.

It's one of Europe's largest hotels with 1,098 bedrooms so it's going to take some time to refurbish all the bedrooms, corridors and public spaces.

I would expect that work will have been completed on the East Wing by the time of your visit and you will have a nice and refreshed refurbished room.

There are also plans to refurbish the hotels two restaurants and to re-organise lobby and bar areas during the refurbishment which may cause some inconvenience to guests, but I belive the plan is to use the check-in desks at the hotels convention centre entrance while this work takes place.

I was wondering the same thing.

The pool is being refurbished as well and is scheduled to re-open in March 2014.

HOWEVER...the Disney Agent that you can "chat" with online told me the refurb is taking longer and it won't be open until October How can that be? I mean it's been closed since November 2013, I can't imagine it taking 11 months to finish it?

Who do I believe - the website or the agent?

Okay, I just called DLP and they verified that the pool will indeed be closed until October!

Thanks all for your replies - sounds like things should be mostly beautifully refurbed by november! I might copy you and call them to find out what parts are likely to be closed in November....no bar would be a deal breaker for us!

We are booked for this November and our choosing NPB was all down to the refurb. Dedicated to DLP has a great article with pics. I'll be back with a link une momento!

Hey Kizzy! It's good to be back! I've been off galavanting on non Disney holidays but I couldn't bear the idea of an entire year without a trip. My mum and I got nostalgic at Christmas about past festive trips and agreed we would definitely go for Christmas 2014

It does look nice doesn't it. I think a bit cabin-on-a-cruise like. We were the same, we missed Christmas just gone and were reading the TRs and said we would definitely see Christmas season 2014! We are booked in from the 24th - 28th. Beyond excited to see it all
And the offer is a good one so it would have been silly not to book

We're finishing the list in May when we stay at DLH but if the hotels are being refurbed we'll have to check them out again

Here is some more info on the Newport Bay Club refurbishment.

The East Wing (524 rooms) will be closed for refurbishment from 1 November 2013 until further notice. During this period the following facilities will be closed: Outdoor swimming pool, indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, sauna and steambath. Massage and fitness room and the games room.

The Yacht Club Restaurant is closed until 31 July 2014.
The Cape Cod Restaurant will be closed between 3 March to 31 July 2014.
During this time, the Cape Cod’s buffet breakfast will be served in the hotel’s convention center.

The 2nd and 3rd phase of refurbishment will follow for the Central building and the West Wing of the hotel. The precise dates of these phases will be communicated later.

Gosh I hope so!! We're there in November & I had hoped for a nice new room! Fingers crossed! Thanks for your reply
