Hi all,

I have a vague memory of reading on here somewhere that the shortcut in the NPB is closed. Can someone let me know if this is still the case and if so what exactly does it mean? Does it mean the back door of the hotel is closed where you can get out to the lake? Does it mean the back door is open but instead of turning left when you come out the door you have to turn right and walk the long way around the lake?

Anyone know when or if the shortcut will reopen?

I'd be grateful for any info.

Thanks, Paula

I'm presuming they mean you can't go left when you come out of the back.

There is a lot of work going on to build the new earl of sandwich, which means you have to walk the long way round. That said when we were there in may they had a little train taking people between Newport and cafe mickey.

EDIT: found a pic of the train they were using

The left pathway is indeed closed for the construction of the Earl of Sandwich Restaurant in Disney Village, this restaurant is planned to open in spring 2011.
The left path might be closed during the whole construction.

We just had to walk past Sequoia Lodge round the lake instead of cutting down the side by rainforest cafe :)

You are talking about walking round the whole lake so yes it will take longer. You would go past SL and NYH, the balloon ride and into the Village past Chef Mickeys. If you walked it from NPB i would think it would take 15-20 minutes strolling speed to get to the Village. You can take the train - you pay one way (no return ticket, or at least there wasnt earlier this year). It goes from NPB to just outside Chef Mickey and i think it cost 3 euros per person.
The walk is fairly level apart from walking over the bridge just past SL but it seems further on returning from the parks with sore feet! I would recommend considering grabbing the train on the way back to NPB.
Oh, and if they are still for hire, watch out for the 4 wheeler bike things - they can get some speed up and sometimes they are upon you before you even hear them coming.

Was it much further or take much longer?

Steve

it wasn't too bad :) we were 4 adults though, to be honest we probably wouldn't have attempted it with kids. they were exhausted just walking to hny!

we actually still found walking quicker than waiting for the shuttle bus!

This shortcut being closed prompted me to phone Disney to ask about it (we were originally booked into NBC) and we were able to upgrade to HNY for £20 for our 5 nights :cool1:
This wasn't due to the path being shut, just happened to be at 40% off which it wasn't when we originally booked. The longer walk to NBC probably wouldn't have bothered us THAT much but we are glad we are going back to HNY now.
