If you go to Youtube and look up "abandoned river country" I noticed over the last year there have been 3 new videos put up showing some kids going into the old park and videoing it. You can see the pool filled in with sand and they walk around the bridge that we can all see when taking the boat over the MK.

I'm not posting a link as the videos have some language content to them and I don't want to cause any issues but you can pull them up for yourself.

So the sand is to cut down on mosquito breeding grounds?

I guess the Zika paranoia must have been impacting reservations last summer. Or Disney thought it was.

Probably some to do the Zika i'm sure, but I think it also had to do with liability. If some kid got in there and drown or Lord forbid a gator was in there and grabbed somebody.

It was definitely done for the 'skeeters. Of course, to be completely effective they need to fill in Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon... :rolleyes1

While I don't know for sure, I heard that when the whole "Gator" thing occurred a short while ago, there was some concern that they were actually breeding over there in River Country as well.

I am certain there is Liability concerns that prompted this. Mosquitoes, Gators, Wandering VLoggers (I recall watching one of a girl sneaking in. She posted her video and the folks at Disney actually banned her from the parks.)
