Hello everyone...thanks for all of the great advice from the forum a few months ago. We have recently purchased direct points at Riv and also 3 resale contracts at VGF. Managing the many contracts and waiting for points to show up has been pretty crazy, but we are almost there with all of our points!

We got a June use year for everything and unfortunately due to timing we were not able to secure the reservation for post-Thanksgiving weekend at VGF for a 2 bedroom like we had hoped. We are waitlisted though and a friend who is a DVC member has told us not to worry and that she has never not been able to connect on waitlisting. I think our 7 month window is in April if I remember off the top correctly, and we are otherwise looking to extend a bit and try to get a cabin at Copper Creek, which looks to be available as of now. Any insights into how likely we are to clear the waitlist for a 2 bedroom at VGF for the Fri-Sun after Thanksgiving...or how quickly those cabins might go for the same time?

Secondly, one of the contracts had some unused points (100 at VGF) that we won't be able to use before they expire soon. We went with one of the big outfits online to try to sell the points. I figured they would go pretty quickly, but its been like crickets. When people try to sell points, is it better to try to manage that here on the forum maybe? We aren't trying to get rich off the points...just trying offset some of the maintenance fees. Maybe selling points are harder than I thought?

Any guidance on either topic is much appreciated!

Hi! I’m a newbie too but I rented before purchasing. I used the Facebook pages to rent. There’s also a Facebook page for transferring points to another owner which I believe carries less risk. I have a copy of a contract that was used if you want to see it. I might be interested in a transfer of the 100 points depending on cost. I need some more for this year and have a May trip planned although that’d be cutting it close with June points though I’ve already booked flights.

If the points are banked, they cannot be transferred.

I have had good luck renting here on the boards or on various Facebook groups. I would try renting on your own to see if you get more responses that way.

In terms of your wait list, there does tend to be quite a bit of shifting at the 7 month mark so it’s always a possibility but it’s hard to say how likely it will be to come through, especially this year with so many excess points in the system from people whose travel plans were delayed last year and currently. I would definitely have a back up plan in mind in case it doesn’t come through. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

If your points expire soon, list them on here. I got rid of 126 points on the forums in just about 48 hours just a week ago at $14/pt. It's a little more work but it's better than losing them altogether.

I've recently rented points on the rent/trade board as well. In the past we used a broker, but it wasn't much more work to do it myself. Good luck!

Technically, you are "renting" points, not "selling" and I think you are better to offer them for rent here or on a facebook group rather than using a broker.

@PedroD in addition to your wait list I would stalk the DVC availability tool, if one of your desired nights comes up, grab it. People can sometimes piece together stays by grabbing days as they pop up. You’re trying to get a very popular resort - VGF at a very popular time - Thanksgiving in a year when lots of people have lots of points because of cancelations in 2020.
Are you trying for a lock off 2 br. or a dedicated? I think the lock offs go faster because of demand for the studio portion. Also are you trying for a standard or lake view, the standards go faster because they take fewer points.

I rented some points with Davids, it was very smooth. My points were for SSR so $1 less rental fee but both reservations I booked were for more expensive resorts (Kidani and Poly). I would lower your rate to match the cheaper resorts because its only $1 less and I bet they rent those first if they can because unless someone needs VGF and is more than 11 months out why would they pay extra

Rent them on your own. And I would book a replacement for the waitlist in case it doesn’t come through. Apparently that is one of the most popular times of year for dvc people— and this year will be packed since covid got a lot of people to put vacations on hold last year. Make sure you call or chat with MS and get them to put a note in your waitlist to replace that reservation if it comes through so that you do not end up with 2 different reservations.

No need to contact MS for this. There's a box to check when creating the waitlist to have this happen.

Yes but once the wait list is created there is no way to go back and do it by yourself without canceling the waitlist and rebooking. If you do that you lose tour place on the waitlist.
