Hi folks - this will be our first time flying to Disney. When I booked our Thanksgiving trip I told them we would be driving in as usual. Since then, we decided to fly. After reading some negative things about Magical Express in the Unofficial Guide - I pre-booked a rental car with L&M. Do you think I should re-think this and then where do I start? I'm sure I need to call back and have Mag. Express added - and we still want a rental car - can I arrange this at my resort?? ANY INFO would be very helpful!! Thanks!! :confused3

Well, I love DME, as do many thousands if not millions of others who've already used it. But if you want a rental car during your stay anyway, then DME seems superfluous.

You can believe the opinions of the 3 or 4 people who wrote whatever the Unofficial Guide has to say, or you can search this forum and see the praises given to DME by many many of the people here on DISboards.

But like I said, if you know you will want to have a rental car during your vacation, then why even consider DME?

We used ME and thought is was quite quick and simple. They play a welcome video on the bus on the way to WDW and it puts everyone in the mood. Nice that you don't have to worry about luggage. We did not rent a car and had no problems with Disney transportation. I would only rent a car if you were planning to go off property.

Actually the rental car would be used only to go off property to stock up on items we can't take with us (i.e. wine/beer). Is there another way?? I would love to can the rental and just do DME!!

Taxi service may be cheaper, especially if its only 1 or 2 trips during your whole vacation.

Well then you came to the right place for answers that will make your day and save you money. There are 3 delivery services that I'm aware of and that many DISers have been satisfied with. I used Gooding's (www.goodings.com), an actual supermarket, for my grocery delivery last May, but they won't be any good for you because they can't deliver alcohol. Check out WeGoShop (www.wegoshop.com) and Garden Grocer (www.gardengrocer.com), both of which are grocery delivery services that will shop wherever you want them to, and they both deliver alcohol as well. They both have many fans here at the DIS.

HAVE FUN! :thumbsup2

THANK YOU ERIC!!!!!!! Yes you made my day. If I have any questions when I check out those sites, may I PM you? Also, is there a deadline for adding DME? I can call today, just hope I'm not too late!!

Happy I could help. Yes, you are more than welcome to PM me. However, I'd actually rather you posted the questions out here in a public forum, as your questions and my answers and/or anyone else's answers may help others, as well. Plus, this way if I give you incorrect information there will be plenty of people to set both you and me straight!

I think PMs are cool for off-topic things, and I'll certainly answer your PM if you PM me, but like I said, let's keep it out here for everyone to benefit from. THANKS!

TigerKat,

I forgot to add that you can reserve DME up to 10 days prior to arrival. I read a post from at least one person who called DME directly (866-599-0951) and was told he/she couldn't make reservations any SOONER than 60 days prior to arrival. I know this not to be true, as I'm traveling in November and already have confirmation of my DME reservation. So you might just want to call CRO (Central Reservations Office) at 407-WDISNEY and ask them to add DME to your reservation. I KNOW they can do it this far in advance.

Have a great one! :thumbsup2

You can buy wine and beer at the resorts (or any liquor).

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!

Resort prices on alcohol were really high! If I remember $5-$6 for a beer.
