We're thinking about going to Vero Beach for Spring Break next year which is the week right before Easter. We are not DVC members but might be someday soon! Is the only way to go there by renting points from someone or can you make regular ressies there? Are the kids activities there free? How often do they have kids activities? Will adults have some alone time? Are the rooms right on the beach? Do you need a car if you stay there? What kind of Disney magic is there? Do they have bus transportation to the parks for the day?

Any other info would be most welcome!

Yes, you can make ressie's at Vero without being a member. Some Inn rooms have an ocean view. Book now for next year before it fills up! Plenty of kid activities are free, some have a small fee. I would bring a car. If you and your spouse are creative you can get that private time you mentioned. I'm sure you need that time to just sit around and watch T.V. :p

Anyway, Vero is a good choice. Book NOW!!!! Have fun! :smooth:

Thanks Doug. Who do I call to book? Also, is this the most economical way to go there or is it better to try renting points?

I believe there is a kids club in the evening for 3 maybe 4 hours twice a week called DV2 or something like that. It includes dinner for the kids. I belive it is for 4 and above. There are campfires twice a week with sing along, unbirthday parties and activities throughout the day. Some better than others, and for different age groups. Checking the members website can sometimes reveal special rates for rooms, but those won't apply to spring break, that's peek season. Hope that helps.

First I thought you wanted to know the driving routs, I was going to tell you to take I95 South and get of at the Sabastian exit, since Vero DVC is North of Vero beach, the Sabastian exit is closer.

You can call 1-800-359-8000 to book a room or CRO can do it for you.

Do you have a Disney Club card? This MAY get you a discount but don't count on it. Like the above poster said, that is peak time.

You will not run out of things to do at VB. Mini golf, pool, slide, pirate ship play area for kids, playground, numerous activities throughout the day.

If you rent points from a DVC member you will not get housekeeping if that matters to you.

If you buy the Birnbaum guide to Walt Disney World there usually is a coupon in the back but I do not know if it is good for the time you are wanting to go.

You can use the kids club to have some time with your spouse. We have never used it for our kids so I do not know what it is like.

They have villas and inn rooms. Inn rooms can have either an ocean view or a garden view-you can reserve whatever you prefer. They also have beach cottages that sleep 12 but these are very hard to get. You can take a look at the various size villas and room set-ups at dvcresorts.com

We always prefer an inn room so I can't give you any info about the villas. We just love to look at the ocean from our balcony day and night.

We find the food at VB to be great. We usually just buy snack food for the room and eat most of our meals at the restaurants.

Having a car at VB is a matter of personal choice. We have gone and never left the resort for 7 days and there have been other times when we drive into town to eat or something. I do not know of any bus or shuttle type service that will get you to WDW. It definately would be cheaper just to rent a car for your stay than to use a car service to get to Orlando and back.

HAVE FUN. YOU"LL LOVE IT.

Thanks for everyone's help. I called CRO and they won't let you make a reservation until August or September so that DVC members will have a chance to book. I want to be sure we have somewhere to go over spring break. What should I do? I hate to wait until then because if I can't get in or if the rates are astronomical it will be hard to find somewhere else to go at a reasonable rate.

I'm not sure why they told you to wait until Sept.

I have made cash ressies up to a year ahead of time-even though it was not at Spring Break time.

Call 1-800-359-8000 and see what they tell you.

I have called to make ressies-last year-and nothing was available-called back 5 minutes later and they had availability.

I would just call periodically.

Maybe it is the time of year you are going but they usually know what inventory is going to be used by members at a certain time. We usually went in October when the resort was not busy. Maybe that is why we never had a problem making ressies a year out.

Don't worry. Just keep checking and maybe something will open up. Are you trying to book with a discount of some kind?

Have you thought about renting pts from a DVC member?

That's the number I called. I lent my Birmbaum book to someone so I don't have the discount coupons. I'll have to check my Entertainment book too.

I would definitely consider renting points from someone. Does it work out better that way?

If you rent from a DVC member, the member can make the reservation for you now(11 months out ) and you don't have to wait, if they have VB as a home resort.

It sounds like renting pts may work out well for you. If VB is the members home resort they can make ressies for you right now.

Take a look at the rent/trade section of these boards.

I'm sure there are some DVCer's who may have pts available that you need. Renting pts may save you quite a bit at that particular time of year. I know it will probably be cheaper than using the Birnbaum offer. Birnbaum will only save you 10%, if it is available.

You don't need the coupon in front of you to book the Birnbaum offer. Just ask for the "Birnbaum Offer".

Definately check out renting pts. You can get your ressie now. Make sure you familiarize yourself with how this all works as far as paying the person who rents you the pts, etc.

Good luck.

Just out of curiousity, what type of room are you trying to book?

I'm not sure about room type. We are a family of 4 and the kids will be 7 and 9 when we go.

Ya know, I was just playing with the points calculator and I realized that because our school starts VERY late next year (September 9th due to school construction) maybe we should go the first week of September. It seems like prices will be about half or less versus Spring Break. What's the weather like? I'm assuming it must be really hot.

Did they say that nothing was available?

Do you think you will look into renting points?

Have you checked out the rent/trade board?

Your options for a family of four are:

Inn ocean view room
Inn garden view room
One bedroom villa
2 bedroom villa
Studio

Really, it all depends on what you want and what is available.

Again, I wouldn't worry. I'm sure you will get a room either by renting points or waiting just a few weeks, maybe a month or two and calling back.

If you can swing it a 1 bebroom is great with 2 kids. We were at VERO 2/14 -2/18 in a 1 bedroom and it was great. The kids had there own space and DW and I had a room to ourselves( great big tubs in the bathroom).
The resort is great, with lots of fun stuff to do. The bike ride was a lot of fun, and the pool games were a blast. I would not want to go to VERO without a car, it is a long way from the nearest airport, 1.30 hours to MCO about 1.15 to PBI. You can walk to some stuff but the movies and town are about 10 minutes away.

As posted renting points will be a lot cheaper than cash. NOTE: the resort does not have cots to rent, if your kids won't sleep in the same bed, bring a areo bed.

Try Charley's South Beach for dinner. We took the whole extended family, DW, DD10, DS6, parents and FIL , one night and they have sometime for everybody. Great salad bar and very extensive menu.
